Robert Meilhammer, 51, suffered a "severe head injury" after his hunting group fired at a flock of Canadian geese in Easton, Maryland. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted February 4, 2018 A much-celebrated gannet, the only one of its kind living on an island off the coast of New Zealand, has been found dead surrounded by concrete replicas of birds it is believed he thought were his friends and family. Nigel “no mates”, as he was affectionately known, lived his life on the edge of a desolate cliff on the almost-uninhabited Mana Island, with only 80 fake gannets for company. Bruce Grubb, 24, was throwing a housewarming party when he spotted the bizarre sight and called police, fearing his pregnant cows were about to be devoured. The frightened farmer said the first officer to respond to the scene was so scared that he “refused to get out of the squad car.” North East Police even checked a local wildfire park to see if they had an escaped tiger on the loose. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted February 15, 2018 Russia's oldest polar bear in captivity, has died at 38 years old in a zoo in Perm. Polar bear Amderma was captured in the Yamal-Nenets autonomous region in 1989 and her carers estimate she was born in 1980. After brief stays in zoos in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan, she finally found sanctuary in Perm. The death occurred on Feb. 7. She lived there happily for 21 years, giving birth to five healthy cubs. According to the NGO Polar Bears International, the average age for bears in captivity is around 30, which is significantly higher than in the wild, which is around 15-18 years. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted February 28, 2018 The Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera was admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital after he was injured in an alleged attack by the temple’s elephant. The Thera was found lying near the elephant either having slipped while feeding the elephant in the morning or pushed aside by it. The monk was rushed to the hospital by the devotees who were present in temple at the time. The devotees were concerned that the fall might have broken some of his ribs. "The first report was received Saturday by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, saying two people were injured after they were bitten by a river otter while kayaking, according to a statement from FWC public information coordinator Melody Kilborn. Sunday, FWC received two more reports of kayakers who were attacked and bitten by a river otter about two miles from the previous day’s attack. Initial reports said the otter was chasing boats and acting aggressively, some even reported seeing the otter come into contact with an alligator. James Scott-Lee, chairman of estate agent chain Chancellors, was killed as he returned his horses to his five stables in Kirtlington, Oxfordshire, when the horses became startled and kicked him to the ground before trampling on him. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted April 1, 2018 Sparky the bison, 14, died this week at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Iowa. He was born at the National Bison Range in Montana, and transported to Neal Smith when he was two years old. Sparky received international attention after surviving a lightning strike in July 2013. Although he was badly scarred for the rest of his life, he remained part of the social structure of the herd and became a symbol for the endurance for his species. Biologists at the park in the Apennine mountains had trapped the animal to fit him with a radio collar so they could track his movements. But the male Marsican bear began to struggle to breathe as he was being sedated and died shortly afterwards, despite efforts to revive him. Wildlife officials have described the loss of the animal as "very serious". "This is a subspecies in danger of extinction that now counts only 50 individuals or little more," said WWF Italia, as it called for a review of capture procedures.
