I couldn’t disagree more with either of the two statements you made.  I post 50% of the animal stuff if not more, and will use the ‘appropriate’ thread.

Scarborough had to cancel a New Year fireworks display to protect ‘Thor’, a walrus who stranded himself on the beach. ‘Thor’ gave onlookers a display of their own.

Mind, has anyone checked on the whereabouts of Boris Johnson?

Thor?

He should probably lay off the wanking then.

Manuel López, a man in his 50s, was decapitated by a 19-foot-long great white shark off the coast of Mexico earlier this month. López was diving for mollusks in a bay on the Sea of Cortez off of the state of Sonora. According to fishermen, warnings had been issued earlier in the day to divers that great white sharks had been sighted. “He was diving when the animal attacked him, impressively ripping off his head and biting both shoulders,”

Interesting article on Serbian gator Muja. His age is estimated 98 at highest, 86 at lowest but likely around 88-90 now. He survived WWII abandonment, both Nazi and Allied bombings, the bombings of Belgrade in 1999 and an amputation due to gangrene in 2012.

"Grandpa, is this alligator alive?" the girl asked.

"I don’t know, sweetie. I asked my grandpa the same thing 60 years ago," the man responded.

Lolita, an orca whale who had lived in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium since 1970, died Friday afternoon, according to the facility.

The 57-year-old whale was set to be released back into the ocean, the Miami Seaquarium announced in March. Advocates identified a natural sea pen off Washington state, including waters where members of Lolita’s family still swim. Her 95-year-old mother is believed to still be alive.

Lolita was one of the two oldest orcas in captivity and the only orca caught in US waters still in captivity.  She was captured off the Pacific Northwest in 1970. The whale stopped performing for the public in 2022 and lived in an 80 feet by 35 feet tank

A woman who was attacked by an elk last month has died of her injuries after being trampled by the animal after apparently trying to feed it, officials said.

“According to the husband, when he returned around 6 p.m., he found his wife on the ground in the backyard with injuries consistent with being trampled by an elk,” authorities said. “He also observed a bucket of spilled corn nearby. There were no witnesses to the event.”

This is believed to be the first fatal elk attack in Arizona, AZGFD said.

However, even though this is thought to be the first death due to elk attack in the state, there have been five reported elk attacks in Arizona in the past five years.

Maru the box cat

YouTube recommended me this video of Maru today.

He seems quite well for an elderly cat on the heavier side. Reminds me of my own late cat, who the vet used to call "robust".

Muja celebrated "87th birthday", which means 87 years at the Belgrade Zoo. The article says the gator was likely around ten years old upon arrival, so that'd put him at around 97. Looks...possibly alive.
