That's caused by the British Government being stuck in it for the last six months I'd imagine... The person thought most likely to replace Geir Haarde, Social Democrat Ingibjorg Gisladottir, will not be taking the job as she is receiving treatment for a brain tumour. Not exactly political leaders but we've got to take on board the Tamil Tigers. Hopelessly penned in and on the brink of military defeat, there are leaders in the organisation facing either imminent death in the final battles, or a very uncertain future - including possible death - if caught alive. And they'd be mentioned on the BBC foreign news pages if nowhere else. I know the next CPDP is a long way off, but there are theme team points to be had, or summat. From his wiki page: On the 2nd of November 2008, Andreotti appeared on a current affairs magazine programme, 'Questa Domenica', on the Berlusconi-owned Italian television station, 'Mediaset', discussing amongst other things the film, 'Il Divo'. During his appearance, he appeared to suffer health difficulties and there was speculation he had suffered a stroke. Andreotti was twice posed a question and simply failed to respond, although his eyes remained open. The station cut to an advertisement break, following which Andreotti reappeared, in seemingly better condition. The incident was presented to the viewer as a consequence of technical difficulties. "Mr Roh’s death came as prosecutors planned to decide next week whether to take legal action against him. Mr Roh had admitted that his wife had taken money from a businessman to pay family debts. It's been a fairly dry spell the last several weeks. The last major celebrity to die is Chuck Daly (legendary NBA coach). But even his fame is somewhat questionable. I doubt he's known in the UK. In the last several months, the following celebrities teased us with the media claiming they had "days" to live and that their deaths were imminent... Patrick Swayze Farrah Fawcett Ed McMahon Stephen Hawking Gene Autry Jerry Lewis Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) Yet all of them are still alive and well (maybe not well, but still holding on). FINALLY, we would break this long-@rse dry spell if Margaret Thatcher would just freakin' croke. C'mon Thatcher, what's taking you so long? Okay, I don't give a s*** about all these former leaders of some obscure third world country (okay, Israel is NOT a third would country) dying. we need to have somebody like Fidel Castro or Kim Jong il or Margaret Thatcher croaking. That would make my day. I'm getting impatient here with the lack of celebrity deaths for the past several weeks. And before any of you get all sanctimonious on me, c'mon, Castro, Jong il, and Thatcher are all scum anyway so it's not like the world will be a worst off place if they die. hell, the world would be a much better place if they died! I argued vigorously for my favorite, Paul Newman. My co-worker argued that Albert Hoffman was the most significant death of 2008! I even remembered my co-worker talking about, even mourning, Albert Hoffman when he heard news of his passing. Maybe my co-worker was an LSD fan... Sorry to take this off topic, but I could never forget the reaction of my co-worker when he heard news that Albert Hoffman died. It was like the passing of his favorite childhood idol. it was kinda pathetic, but i'm sure my co-worker would say the same thing when i mourned Paul Newman's passing. The debate was heated at times. My co-worker argued that Albert Hoffman was much more significant than Paul newman because Newman was just "some actor" while Hoffman invented LSD! I guess you couldn't really argue that. But I pointed out the cultural significance of Paul Newman as not just an American idol, but a beloved international idol especially to cinema fans. I did my best not to respond on this, but apparently it realy bothered me. What right do you have to not call his death notable, I agree I've also never heard of the man but I'd never heard of Albert Hoffman either before I joined the site. I think it's just way to easy to say that every person you never heard of must be non-important. claiming that a former NBA-coach (a death only an American can care about) is more important than an former African leader is just absurt. I wasn't alive during his reigning period (1968 till 1985, maybe you were there during all that time but I doubt it) so I can't say if he is important enough or not. But of what I've read about him (his coup, Camp David involvment) It doesn't feel right just to react emidently and saying he doesn't count as someone notable. I think one of you're biggest handicaps is being American. Because you live in a country which dominates more than half it's continent, you don't really see the difference between national and international importance and you end up with a very narrow look of the world and the people in it. You probably have a reaction on this post which is much stronger than the post itself because you are much better in expressing yourself on forum-sites and because English is your first language. So when you react don't expect another reaction from me. For the other death listers I.am sorry, I was aware I promised to make lesser apearences on this site but I just had to respond to this.
