Which reminds me, Tony Benn’s son, Stephen AKA 3rd Viscount Stansgate (who is 70 this month and a bit on the heavy side) just joined the HoL as a new Labour hereditary peer the other week, after his dad surrendered his title and made a big thing about it!

Hilary and Stephen certainly don’t take after their father.

Still three Bahamian Governor-Generals living who are over 90:

Sir Orville Turnquest (b. 1929) Gov-Gen 1995-2001. Did not take part in a naming ceremony of a building named after him this February.

Dame Ivy Dumont (b. 1930) Gov-Gen 2001-2005. Took part in a naming ceremony of a building named after him this June or July, looks old but not exactly frail.

Sir Arthur Foulkes (b. 1928) Gov-Gen 2010-2014. Looks younger than what he is.

Additionally there's Dame Marguerite Pindling (b. 1932) Gov-Gen 2014-2019 who will, if she's still alive, be 90 next June.

Jimmy Maxton's nephew John is now Lord Maxton of Blackwaterfoot iirc! He used to look the spitting image of his uncle but now he's considerably older than Jimmy ever got to that ended long ago.

Agreed that a lot of them have been dropping off recently.

Thought I'd take this opportunity to look at how many WWII veterans from the three strands of government in the U.S. are still with us.

There are still 14 living formers members of the House of Representatives who served:

b. 1919: Lester L. Wolff
b. 1920: Neal Edward Smith
b. 1921: Mike McCormack
b. 1923: Bob Dole, Al Quie
b. 1924: Frank Joseph Guarini, Weston E. Vivian
b. 1925: Fletcher Thompson, G. William Whitehurst, Lucien Nedzi
b. 1926: J. Roy Rowland, Elwood Hillis, Earl Hutto, Mark Andrews, Robert J. Lagomarsino
b. 1927: Benjamin B. Blackburn, Arthur Ravenel Jr., Austin Murphy, Bud Brown, Edwin Edwards, Jim Weaver, James W. Symington

There are just 3 living Senators who served (they are also the top 3 oldest living):
b. 1923: James Buckley, Bob Dole (also listed above)
b. 1925: Daniel Evans
b. 1926: Mark Andrews (also listed above)

There are 9 living Governors who served:

b. 1925: Ted Schwinden, Daniel Evans (also listed above)
b. 1926: George Ariyoshi
b. 1927: Phil Batt, George Nigh, Winfield Dunn, Edwin Edwards (also listed above)

Jimmy Carter (also listed above) is of course the only living President who served. There are no living Vice Presidents who served.

3 living members of the Cabinet who served:

Johnson administrationAlan Stephenson Boyd (b. 1922), Ramsey Clark (b. 1927) NONE!
Nixon administration: Henry Kissinger (b. 1923), George Shultz (b. 1920)
Ford administration: Henry Kissinger (b. 1923, also listed above)
Carter administration: Charles Duncan (b. 1926), Ray Marshall (b. 1928)
Reagan administrationGeorge Shultz (b. 1920, also listed above) NONE!

No living justices of the Supreme Court who served following the death of John Paul Stevens (1920–2019).

As far as I know, these are complete. I will do the UK (Commons and Lords) when I get time, but that will probably involve more research.

Updated for the deaths of Edwin Edwards and John Malcolm Patterson.

25 names left from the three strands of federal U.S. Gov.

Ivan Silayev (1930-) Last Premier 1991 (Chairman of the Inter-republican Economic Committee) Can't find a picture of him after 2007. Widowed 2006, Silayev already has a grave. Picture is from the 1990s. I expect his time to come soon.

Post-Soviet dictators/dictator-nutheads/you can't get rid of these unless you kill them atleast twice-s:

Nursultan Nazarbayev (1940-) was the President 1990-2019 but still the Chairman of the Security Council of Kazakhstan and forces his successor, current President Kassym Jomart-Tokayev (1953-) to reveal giant statues of himself. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow (1957-) Dictator of Turkmenistan since the death of the great Türkmenbaşy Saparmurat Niyazov (1940-2006), before that he was Niyazov's dentist. This bird has flown... Lester Bird, former PM of Antigua and Barbuda, dead at 83:

https://associatestimes.com/former-prime-minister-of-antigua-and-barbuda-sir-lester-bird-dies-at-83/

Didn't live to such a great age as his father, Vere Bird, first Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and first Premier of Antigua did (88) Vere is in the picture below:

antigua-prime-minister-vere-bird-picture-id534928856.jpg.a18b7903007d8f51319010cfc3715577.jpg

Lester, a former athlete, succeeded his father in 1994 and ruled the island country for 10 years during James Carlisle's long tenure as governor-general until he was defeated by Baldwin Spencer. Lester's leg was amputated in April.

The Birds (Vere 1910-1999, Vere Jr. 1937-2013 and Lester 1938-2021) were often accused of corruption and cronyism.

https://dailynationzambia.com/2021/08/09/former-president-rupiah-banda-has-appealed-to-possible-losers-in-thursdays-election-to-graciously-accept-defeat/

I've been keeping a close eye on Zambia's former Presidents before and after the death of Kaunda as all three have a history of health troubles, and seems like Rupiah Banda is still active. Not sure if he still has cancer, but looks great for a overweight 84-year old.

The other living former president, 77-year old Guy Scott, parkinson skeleton who was the acting president for a while in 2014 has also talked about the upcoming Thursday presidential elections in Zambia, multiple articles released that have statements from him but there's never a picture or a video of him. He's been reported "ailing" for a long time not only physically (according to many on twitter he's currently so frail he can't stand at all) but also mentally, so there's a chance the opinions in those articles aren't completely his own ones.

Who's going to be here for a longer time? I'd place my money on Banda.

Other Zambian politicians:

Malimba Masheke (1941-) Last Prime Minister of Zambia 1989-1991 and last one living.

Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika (1948-) Last living candidate of the 1996 Presidential elections and last living 20th century candidate in the Presidential elections of Zambia.

Godfrey Miyanda (1944-) VP 1994-1997, earliest living VP

Enoch Kavindele (1950-) VP 2001-2003

Nevers Mumba (1960-) VP 2003-2004

Inonge Wina (1941-) VP 2015-2021

Noted for asserting existence of aliens and asking governments to reveal what they know. Also quite went the conspirationist route sometimes, but I tend to believe most of what he said.

Version 1: Than Shwe and wife tests positive, condition unknown, expected to be in hospital for weeks.

Version 2: Than Shwe and his wife have been hospitalized as a precaution so they don't catch COVID (???). Tests were performed and results are awaited, but they show no symptoms. Than Shwe is "believed to have been vaccinated".

I'm betting that either one dies, one dies and one goes soon after or both die.
