gcreptile 11,079 Posted October 28, 2022 A minor version of Vicky Phelan, Lynsey Bennett, has died from her cancer: https://www.sundayworld.com/news/irish-news/tributes-as-cervical-check-campaigner-lynsey-bennett-34-passes-away-after-cancer-battle/299578755.html Another victim of the Cervical Check scandal in which cancer checks systematically failed to diagnose cervical cancer in women. I think she was a DDP pick at some point, but disqualified since then as not being notable enough. Edit: No, not a DDP pick at least in the years 2019-2022. Well, I had her on my longlist though.

Unfortunately for DDP purposes, she wasn't as influential as required.

I wonder if her CoppaFeel charity work would make her an allowable pick in the DDP? i.e. one of that category of people who is only famous for being ill until they live long enough and do enough charity work to be also recognised through a charity/fundraising/campaigning? gcreptile 11,079 Posted May 6 I was wondering why she wasn't on more teams after that living funeral...but I'll take it. Probably because she lasted so long, much longer than everybody thought. Good for her, but still too early though. She probably was the last living example of the OG cancer celebrities.

Makes me happy I don't have to worry about that, as I live here. Might go bankrupt getting healthcare, but I don't have to worry about getting approval and weighing deterioration versus care as it seems she did. Not a knock on Australia's healthcare system, which seems fine enough, but just an observation. She looks relatively fine though, but the article doesn't don't have enough detail for me to be able to say how long she lasts.
