YoungWillz 21,593 Posted May 1, 2017 My team is fine. Thanks for running this again Raddikins! I may have finished in bottom position last time out, and I may do so again. What the hey? How you doing? * (*Enzo Amore)
gcreptile 11,333 Posted May 1, 2017 The talent pool was quite big - too big, even. I forgot about Noriega, Durham and even George Bush Sr. Or Hamilton-Byrne.... and I didn't even consider that Andretti guy. A name out of nowhere for me. But then the start in May means that there is that reservoir of still living DDP favourites plus those you discarded for being too old. And the ton of new names who will inevitably die just shortly before the new year.
drol 12,500 Posted May 1, 2017 I forgot Van der Laan, José José and Sonja Durham. Curse you, dementia.
RadGuy 1,625 Posted May 2, 2017 Just realized that DeathImpends' Deathlist Cup hit George Niederauer was also chosen by him for this pool. Please, folks, let me know about your obscure picks dying. Anyway, no qualifying obit... yet...
Death Impends 8,239 Posted May 3, 2017 LA Times obit for Niederauer Lucky that LA Times is a QO in this pool. I'd have probably picked him even if it were only the DDP QO sources that counted, as I suspected a former archbishop of a big US city would get something via Mail AP, but no sign of that yet.
Bibliogryphon 9,709 Posted May 11, 2017 Geoffrey Bayldon was on the top of my tree for this game.
RadGuy 1,625 Posted May 11, 2017 Finally a second hit. Niederauer on May 2nd, and Bayldon all the way on May 11th. However, I still won't update the scoreboard as both of these hits were unique. I'll wait until there's a major hit (such as van-Zandvliet) for there to actually be more than two teams on the scoreboard. Or if that takes forever, until there's two more minor hits. You have already scored almost 10 times as many points as you did for the entire game last year!
RadGuy 1,625 Posted May 15, 2017 Ian Brady yet another unique hit...
Grim Up North 3,776 Posted May 20, 2017 A lot less people had Sonja Durham than I expected.
RadGuy 1,625 Posted May 20, 2017 Only three teams had her, but all the rest of the hits so far have been unique. Good enough for an update. I'll do it in about 5 hours, when I get back from volunteering.
Joey Russ 7,330 Posted May 20, 2017 Taking a look at all the teams, The Dead Cow is the favorite for me imo.

msc 18,685 Posted June 5, 2017 Helen Dunmore dead according to Twitter. Gcreptile pick. Had been shortlisted for 2018 here a few months back, but so it goes.
Death Impends 8,239 Posted June 5, 2017 QO for Dunmore: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/jun/05/poet-and-author-helen-dunmore-dies-aged-64 Suspect she'd have been an Elias/Nevin-style cult DDP pick had she revealed her diagnosis a few months prior. Exactly. I thought about not picking her in this at all, to keep her name secret. But the "threat" of an early death was too high for me and I wanted to get at least something for it.
