Ok, so here is a record that I think is Hugh Paul's death on Ancestry. His wife Julie's Twitter is based in Tyneside and this death is in Tyne and Wear. Puts his birth in 1955 and his death in 2013, a year before that tweet. I don't have access to Scotland's People so can't do any digging there, but copious stalking of Cleveland Jr.'s Facebook page threw up links which led to this page for Howard McLeod. Can't add much else since they're Scottish-based. Strange that Cleveland is nowhere to be seen in any pictures on his son's or ex-wife's Facebook pages. He's originally from the Caribbean - wonder if he's gone back?

Cleveland must still be alive after all then! I just thought it was strange how there was mention of him in a Barry White tribute band from c. 2008, then no mention or trace of him on Facebook since or on Scotland's People period. He's either laying low or,  as you said, has retired elsewhere... perhaps to the tropical climate of the Caribbean. Who could blame him?!

I found a reference on Twitter to Cleveland still working as a tribute act in 2015, but the link broke when it was clicked. His absence is odd, but otherwise, there's no evidence he's dead anywhere. Glad to help. I'm leaving Rose Royce to @YoungWillz if he's game - I'm better on the domestic front I reckon. 

 

Been looking into Sad Cafe - I assume you're aware Ian Wilson is still performing as Sad Cafe? Absolutely nothing online about a birthday though, which is frustrating. John Stimpson is far more slippery.

Though I can't see it, there's a record coming up on Google Search for a Cliff Parman born March 7, 1917, d. May 3 1998. Could this be him? Link here saying he was working in Chicago in the 1940s and then Nashville. Plenty of records and songs with his name on them. http://thatsallritemama.blogspot.com/2011/07/ Seems to have been related to a Frances Parman (spouse?) and there's a record for a 92 yo living in London, Kentucky by that name.

Saturday Night Band – found this Cliff Barton on Ancestry too (full name Clifton Alton Parman) – he's the only Cliff Parman it seems so I did suspect it was him anyway. I had a look through multiple family trees and social security records. None of them mention that he was a musician. Just checked census records though. None of him living in Illinois in the 40s but there are records of him living in Tennessee in the 40s!

And as I was just about to post this, also found this. Billboard, 1947, referring to arranger Clifton Parman.

Cheers, added. I've put it as c. 1951 for now. It must be at least that year or earlier because I found their marriage certificate and it's from 1967!

So either she married aged 16 or the record label trimmed a few years off her age!

Good find but sadly turns up nothing.

According to Discogs her full name is Venus Edith Dodson. In one article she refers to herself as a native New Yorker. I think she was in reality born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she now lives again. It would explain why there's no record on Ancestry (U.S. and British overseas territories records are not on there annoyingly!).

NB: This summary is pretty useful. The Collins Complete UK Hit Singles book says that Brandi Wells (1955–2003) sung lead vocals, as do many other places online. She isn't credited on the album and it seems that this mix up has arisen because she performed as part of Slick both before and after the release of the above records.
NB2: God knows what I'm doing wrong because I can't find the Ingram brothers on Ancestry even though their first, middle and last names are given on Discogs. I can find records of their sister and their parents oddly...

Bruce Watson of Big Country and his son Jamie usually play with The Skids now as well.

 

Following on from the recent discussion about musicians' subsequent or supplementary careers, I knew Tom Kellichan of The Skids a few years back as he was living nearby for a few months.  At that time he and his lady had a temporary job as painters/decorators doing up a house locally.  Before that he had been a coach driver for Parks of Hamilton.  They were waiting to complete the purchase of a music bar in Tenerife.  I don't know if they're still there as we didn't stay in contact.

Funny thing, last year we went to see The Skids and were in the front row, and at the end the drummer came over and gave me the drumsticks.  Little did he guess that I was acquainted with his predecessor
