Death Impends 7,964 Posted September 28, 2021 Think so. At a very quick glance, here's the surviving US Hot 100 hitmakers born in the 20s I can find, not counting session musicians (ie Bill Pitman) or behind-the-scenes figures (ie Bacharach, Gordy): Ray Anthony - 1922 Tony Bennett - 1926 Ed Ames - 1927 C.W. McCall - 1928 April Stevens - 1929 Leroy Van Dyke - 1929 McCall and Stevens are the only Hot 100 chart toppers of the above lot (though Bennett and Ames did have #1s earlier in the 50s). 1

Saxa had an amazing record with many acts in his time and only made Other Lives. Roger died relatively young and as co-frontman there was plenty to say. Other band members went on with Fine Young Cannibals so would get coverage. But there's no denying The Beat were huge in the US as well as here and as fairly relative pioneers of the Ska/Two Tone outbreak in the late 70s, we can but hope. So many big deaths happening, this news this late on a Friday night might lead to a bit of a wait.

I didn't know who he was at the time. Actually in 2005 I met TWO folk from highly regarded British bands and didn't twig at the time - and both of them are dead now.

MadMac 98 Posted October 9, 2021 I’ve just lost myself in here for several hours, seeing several “I didn’t know they’d croaked” and numerous “They’re still alive?”. One that jumped out was Sir Douglas Quintet, of “She’s About A Mover” fame, listed from San Antonio, California. I don’t know of a San Antonio out here, but in any event, they’re from the somewhat better known Texas one.

Often hours were spent at once doing single letters so bound to be several mistakes in there. Any corrections are welcome!

MadMac 98 Posted October 10, 2021 For some reason, these folks popped into my head: Flintlock I was surprised to note that they actually made the Top 30. Another one that comes to mind in this vein is Stevenson’s Rocket. Something sticks in my mind about one of the members potentially going blind?

Flintlock reformed for a one-off gig in 2007, just wondering wtf actually bothered to go, it'd hardly be on a par with Bros filling an arena (again) would it?
