LWCZ 192 Posted April 6 59 minutes ago, Spade_Cooley said: Big into the World Runners Association waiting until he'd nearly done it to say "actually, he's not the first person to run the full length of Africa" Thing is that he is in-a-way going to be the first one to run the lenght (or not exactly the lenght but from south to north) of Africa. Cook started his run from the most southern point of Africa (Cape Agulhas) and is supposed to finish at the most northern one (Ras Ben Sakka; 37°20′49″N), whereas Olsen (as the press release statement reads) started his Africa run from Taba (29°29′30″N; which isn't even the northernmost point of Egypt) to Cape of Good Hope (which also doesn't mean he ran the full lenght of Africa). 9 minutes ago, Comped said: How trustworthy is this org? Anyone can certify anything after all... As for how trustworthy that association is...well. It's weird. It's no official organisation, if that's what you're asking. The guy that founded it (and who released that statement) is also the same person who created that Wikipedia page (plus he shamelessly plugged his own photo and himself along the association's runners).

The former seems like a very inefficient route, and realistically shouldn't count as being the first because he didn't run the full length of the continent! Which therefore makes Cook the first... Is that even relevant? It reads like it was written by an angry Dane suffering from nationalistic hypertension at the thought of one of 'their' records being broken.

Because lots of nationalistic pricks people have a lot of shortcomings they are trying to make up for. Bit like people who self-identify as 'The Hardest Geezer'.
