Update should be this weekend. Hits since the last update I can see are Burt Bacharach, Colin Dobson, Dickie Davies, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, Just Fontaine, Pervez Musharraf, Tim Lobinger, and Tony Marshall, any others?

February a go. Up first is French racecar driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille, a unique for DeathByArsenic that brings them 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

And then former Pakistani leader Pervez Musharraf. His leadership style all depended on his mood - at times oppressive despot, at times patriotic freedom fighter. Dialing towards the former for HPDP scoring purposes there. The winning trio are CaptainChorizo with 72 points (45 base + 27 bonus), DeathBecomesThem with 64 (40 base + 24 bonus), and drol with 24 (15 base + 9 bonus).

The best that Burt Bachrach could do was one team. Lord, we don't need another mountain, but Murdoc gets a mountain's worth of 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus).

Up next is a triple header in one day. Colin Dobson, a footballer with Sheffield Wednesday, was a trademark Gooseberry Crumble unique worth 21 points (15 base + 6 unique).

Pole vaulter Tim Lobinger was an obit gamble around DDP parts, but with German QOs under the HPDP fold the only question for his pickers was when he would die. He died earlier than anticipate for both Reptile (30 points) and Banana (25 points), and additionally was the first sub hit for RadGuy (25 points).

Unlike Lobinger, schlager singer Tony Marshall had no luck gaining any native press outside his native Germany, but that was enough for HPDP purposes. Reptile swiftly follows up with another "too early" hit to the tune of 35 points (25 base + 10 bonus), plus an extra 5 points for hitting a Daily Double.

time was one of three wooden spoons last year, and as such resubmitted his 2022 team for this year without any modifications. He'll have to go back to the drawing board for at least one name next time, with badger-coiffured World of Sport host Dickie Davies ending the long dry spell. He brings a haul of 56 points (40 base + 16 bonus).

Just one more name in this update. None other than Just Fontaine, the goalscoring juggernaut of 1958 World Cup yore. Fittingly, his picker's username also begins with just, and justonecornetto scores 49 points (35 base + 14 bonus).

Latest scoreboard is below. CaptainChorizo leaps to third on the back of Musharraf, while the top two remain unchanged but with a much closer .05-point margin thanks to justonecornetto gaining more mileage out of Fontaine than Banana did out of Lobinger.

Ignacio López Tarso is my ranked sixth entry for Hartlepool Deadlypool, above is a link to approved news source El Pais for an obit.

It looks like possibly a two point bonus applies for solo hit, going by what I see on the first page of this topic thread, and 25 points for a sixth-place kicker.

Bill Tidy, who was on Celebrity Squares is a mid table hit and my first hit on this pool: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2023/03/12/bill-tidy-cartoonist-who-won-cult-following-cloggies-fosdyke/

Edit: I'm having a look for panto appearances, must be one!

2nd Edit: Can't find one. Also, although he was inspired by the Garstang Morris Men for The Cloggies and they appeared on his This Is Your Life programme, I can't find him ever having participated!!! Though he did have them in for tea when they performed for him on his fiftieth.

Ah well, I think he's a unique for me anyway, so some comfort.

If they were rich men... Three Topol pickers to fiddle with the scoreboard. Charles De Gaulle is left feeling like a yutz with a paltry 14 points (10 base + 4 bonus) while markb4 gets 25 points with his first sub and Etushispushingupdaisies gets 50 with his second.

Another sub hit comes with killer Hollywood star Robert Blake ending in cold blood. Only Gooseberry Crumble selected him to the tune of 25 points.

La cine mexicana star Ignacio Lopez Tarso is another midtable unique for Torva Messor. His curtain call delivers her 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

On the same day as Tarso, YoungWillz cleaned up with Bill Tidy. His debut hit of the year will clog up the scoreboard with a total of 66 points (30 base + 36 bonus).

What seemed poised to be a sluggish month did end with a bang. Merry Christmas came early for nine teams with the death of electronic composing wiz Ryuichi Sakamoto:

Perhaps and wannamaker gain 35 points.

Toast 30.

CaptainChorizo 25.

Sean 20.

DeathBecomesThem and Etushispushingupdaisies 15.

and gcreptile and msc land a first sub for 25 points.

Sakamoto proves most pivotal to the latest scoreboard, with his death giving us a new Captain by a very slender 1.05-point magin:

Bill Butler is a hit for me and others.

New update coming soon. At a glance seems like Bill Butler, Al Jaffee, and Harry Belafonte have been the only hits since last time?

EDIT: Oh, Nigel Lawson too. And Mary Quant.

Here's April. The former Chancellor of the Exchequer checks out. Nigel Lawson was no real loss(on), but very much a gain for nantonian2013, who cooks up 63 points (45 base + 18 bonus) with the death of Nigella's dad.

Next, the cuckoo crumbles for cinematographer Bill Butler. Rumors that he knew he was about to die because he heard ominous music, but couldn't actually see the Reaper sneaking up, could not be confirmed. Grease is the word for two teams: diego gets 35 points and markb4 gets 15.

What? He buried? Only Perhaps saw that pondering the demise of MAD Magazine's Al Jaffee wasn't a stupid question, and brings 25 sub points into his fold.

Pedro67 had fashionista Mary Quant on the outskirts of his team, bobbing upwards with 25 sub points.

Two teams jump in the line following calypso sensation Harry Belafonte's exit. Mostly a vocalist, there are also instances of him drumming out there, and tbh if you can stand toe-to-toe with Animal on the drums you probably deserve the bonus points.

So it's a banana bunch of points for Murdoc with a fruitful 54 in total (30 base + 24 bonus), while ThereWillBeDeaths7 picks up 25 sub points.

No competitive heavyweight deaths in the past month means the very summit of the scoreboard is unimpacted, but the meaty totals of some of the aforementioned hits sweep multiple teams past the century mark and into the top ten:

It’s critical for me to know if Rolf Harris died before or after Tim Keller this month for this pool.

Apparently Rolf has already been ‘laid to rest’. I hope we don’t have another Bracknell situation on our hands here!

Rolf Harris was my top pick for this competition this year.

Obviously he appeared on Celebrity Squares (points) and also panto (points) for example:

1990 pantomime handbills

However, a quick look for morris dancing turns up this confirmation of Rolf joining a group for a dance (points): https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/6413735.rhythm-sticks/

Crimes against humanity bonus at the runner's option. ;)

Aye, he was second on my list behind only Gianluca Vialli - dead in January - so a really good pick, unlike everyone below him on the list who are all still alive, along with both subs!

Working on May update soon. Looking like the hits were Don January, Denny Crum, Rolf Harris, and Tim Keller.

May was a heavyweight month for deaths in general, but less so for the HPDP with only four hits. Tina Turner, Doyle Brunson, and Superstar Billy Graham were previous HPDP picks, but not when it mattered. Nonetheless one of the current HPDP demises brings an absolute explosion of points.

John "요한" Sulu predicted golfer Don January would die in January. Wonder why. Despite this, he placed him rather lowly on his team, and scores 28 points (20 base + 8 bonus).

Defending champ Banana suffered two blows early this year, when two of his hits were deemed FFBI and saw points deducted. Another Pyrrhic victory is notched through basketball player and coach Denny Crum, who was unique but also subject to penalty by being a basketball player. The end result is a loss of 8 points (40 base - 48 bonus).

Nonce Rolf Harris was an anticipated death hereabouts for many reasons. Not just on general principle, but given the way he seeped into so many nooks of British entertainment over his career there were bound to be some bonuses in store. He did Squares, did panto, and Morris danced. Consequentially the end result is a pointsapalooza not unlike Vanessa Marquez or Barbara Windsor in years past, only this time many teams get to bask in the riches:

An Fear Beag, John Key LizLemon, maryportfuncity, MariNisia, Thatcher all gain 50 base + 180 bonus = a staggering 230 points.

Charles De Gaulle, Lord Fellatio Nelson, markb4, msc, Pedro67, Perhaps, Sean, ThereWillBeDeaths7, and YoungWillz 45 + 162 = 207.

Banana, CaptainChorizo, Great Uncle Bulgaria, and theoldlady 40 + 144 = 184.

DeathByArsenic, Funeralopolis, gcreptile, Hell, RadGuy, TheDumbReaper, Toast, wannamaker, Young One 35 + 126 = 161.

chilean way, DeathBecomesThem, and The Old Crem 30 + 108 = 138.

diego and drol 20 + 72 = 92.

and CalebH, Murdoc and The Unknown Man feeling a little shorted by only 25 sub points.

*faints*

Finally, the only hit without any bonuses this update is Calvinist theologian Tim Keller. As he reunites with his boss, Perhaps is elevated by 40 points and BuffaloPhil 30.

It's a new scoreboard, and the Rolf brigade is in the driver's seat. Thanks to Rolf (not often you'll hear that phrase), the top 27 teams are all above 200 points with more than half a year to go. Yet the most decisive name of the update was in fact Tim Keller, who Perhaps utilized to leapfrog to the very top.

So, I'm sitting on 280 points with only two deaths - dunno if that's great or dire, my highest ranking pick (#3 John Cannan) is a shit choice, btw, clearly milking it with claims of "end of life care" a year back and likely to get his Christmas Pud in prison again this year.

Theresa Taylor keeps my hopes alive - sitting 4th on my line up, just under the appaling waste of a pick that is John Cannan, but other than him at least mine are going in the right order. Q/o of a decent standard likely a shoo-in for her, it'll just take a day or two
