This result will be frankly ludicrous if it remains the same.

Adjusted for me, TQR and wannamaker all posting simultaneously.

I remember when, I remember I remember when DLers lost their minds…it was when they picked a song that doesn’t even make Gorillaz’s own Top 5 as the best fucking number one of the decade.

Infact, even Cee Lo and Dangermouse claiming that accolade is a bit of a stretch.

This is fucked. I say we name Fatman Scoop the winner as a compromise.

Well, you guys eliminated Viva la Vida in the qualifying rounds, so you reap what you sow.

As I stated earlier I do love the tune, others were carrying the weight so I left it alone.  It was perilously close to death maybe a week ago and I felt bad for not giving it a lift.  In the end it’s worthy. Bravo!

It’s DARE™

After 3 long months of voting, during which we killed over 200 different songs and we saw the start and end of both the 70’s and 80's No. 2 games. We finally have a winner!

The collaboration between Shaun Ryder’s disembodied head and virtual band Gorillaz was voted as the best UK No.1 hit of the 2000’s according to the very prestigious deathlist.net forums.

The song never did no harm to its voters, but many a forum user felt that Gnarls Barkley should’ve been there themselves, but it didn’t work out in the end for them.

This is how the finale played out:

1 Gorillaz- Dare

2 Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (theoldlady)

3 Britney Spears- Toxic (Paul Bearer)

4 Nelly Furtado - Maneater (Great Uncle Bulgaria)

5 Lady Gaga - Bad Romance (Imelda)

7 Eminem ft. Dido - Stan (Toast)

23 Estelle ft. Kanye West - American Boy (Toast)

24 Britney Spears - Oops!… I Did It Again (ladyfiona)

And to add a bit of fun to this, the following are the 25 worst UK No. 1 hits of the 2000's, according to our votes. (Using the same methodology of 4/5/6 songs per round.)

Spoiler

X Factor Finalists 2008- Hero (2008/09)

X Factor Finalists 2009- You Are Not Alone (2008/09)

And well, that’s me done hosting a KoS till we get to the UK No.3’s, which will probably start in early 2024 considering how these games usually last.

Thanks to everyone for playing, please join the 90’s No.2’s game if you haven’t, right now we’re deciding Pavarotti’s fate, so please help him survive/get him eliminated.

Dare was a song that I only discovered through this game but it was an answer on Richard Osman's House of Games the other week.

Interesting result.

Which one of you is Damon Albarn?

Well done and thanks @wannamaker for expertly seeing this monster of a game (106 pages!) through. I like the 'worst song' stats too; could make for an interesting future round :D

It'll be just a little bit more chill round these parts with just the one KoS going on. @theoldlady is gonna be suffering heavily with withdrawal symptoms. But we'll be back up to two come December for the (already sorted) Christmas Special!

That result is bizarre. Dare was #1 for a single week and as has already been said is not even Gorillaz best song (although it was their only #1). In all the other games, while I've not always agreed with the outcome, I've at least understood it and been satisfied with it, but this one's left me a bit 'meh', especially as it's the era of music I grew up with. Crazy was my chosen winner from quite early on (I'd have had Umbrella originally from the final 25). And I agree with @wannamaker that Viva la Vida should have been in the top few too and somehow didn't make the final. Ho hum.

But just to push back on the suggestion that Crazy was a surprising choice in the final 2 (can't remember who said it), it scored 77 points in qualifying and was top qualifier from 2006-07, so had plenty of support. Dare scored 90 to top score in the previous round, so perhaps I should have seen it coming. I thought Crazy's biggest challenge was going to come from Maneater actually.

Gorillaz seems like the obvious winner to me as that band crosses genres and music scenes. I also recall it barely being voted down in its year, so I rarely upvoted it even though it was my favorite on the list. It just didn't need help.
Gnarls Barkley doesn't surprise me either for the same reasons.
A lot of the other songs were not ones that I see a wide variety in listeners.
