It hurts when Ronnie Barker makes me laugh so much especially in Open All Hours and Porridge-and it hurts to know that he has died.

Ronnie Barker has to have been the best man in the comedy business-the world will be a big loss without him - but let us remember the good he has done for us by watching his DVD/Video's and remembering how clever he was especially by using his mouth-b..b...b...bye bye Ronnie.....B...b....b....Woof....er.....

Thoughts go out to those who really know him from the heart.

Oliver Jones.

Very sad. Like Morecambe and Wise, the funny one's gone first. Griff Rhys-Jones, Gareth Hale and Bob Mortimer must be feeling good about themselves now though. :referee:

Guest R.I.P. Ronnie

Just wanted to come on and say how sad I am feeling right now.

I've seen not that many of his shows, but he is definitely a genius. They say that he is up with the best of them, I believe he was and still is in a league of his own.

Goodnight Ronnie

You are greatly missed :referee:

YES

Good to see him back after many years out of the limelight. Struggles to deliver his lines on The Two Ronnies these days though.

DWB  :referee:

When he passes on, will the show be known as "The Ronnie"?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Was the last Baker related post until this morning.

Let's cut through the obit stuff and relate this back to DL (although great comic actor and all that).

As I recall he originally retired due to heart trouble ,hence Harry Enfeild/Loadsamoney's joke that you should feel free to go into his shop, shout "BOOO" at the top of your voice, watch him go into cardiac arrest and say "That pacemaker must be an antique. I'll give you £50 quid for it" ,way back in the late 80's.

He kept on coming back to accept awards and was in at least one straight to video film with Maggie Smith. In fact he has been on TV at least twice a year for the last 10 years or so talking about the fact that he was retired. All the time looking surprisingly healthy.

So the issue of his health has waxed and wained for years. It would have been a good outside bet to have him on the DL but there was no way of being assured that he would peg it so in terms of percentages we have done well to leave him off.

Anyone care to disagree?

Just wanted to reiterate- Ronnie may have been a sad loss (to whatever extent a 76 year old who has probably acheived all he wishes in life can be regarded as a loss) but he was not a great miss for DL. And surely, given the ,ahem, unique perspective we have in this forum THAT is the point.

Apparantly Ricky Tomlinson paid tribute to him today by comparing him with Ken Dodd.

Ken Dodd is not the first person I would have compared him with.

Perhaps it's because he worked with a diddy man! :referee:

Yes, but will Doddy Directly Die a Dreadful Death?

For then he too would be relevant to this 'ere forum.

Perhaps Ricky is alluding to some tax evasion scheme that never made the papers :o

Barker's death seems to have attracted quite a few guests to deathlist.

Just out of interest, what was the most users in at any one time today. At around five o'clock I recorded 99, only 7 were members.

By the way are any of the Goons still breathing?

Nope, they are all gone.

Milligan, Sellers, Secombe, Bentine, Geldray, Ellington, Greenslade, the lot.

The only survivor is Wally Stott the bandleader who is now a woman and calls herself Angela Morley.

A leading session musician of the day told me the story of the first day Angela turned up after the op to conduct the band as a woman.

As she raised the baton to start conducting, one of the musicians interrupted:

"Excuse me, Angela."

"Yes?"

"I suppose a shag's out of the question?"

You had to be there, I suppose.

Oh, and George Chisholm may or may not still be alive. I don't know.

Maybe some good will come out of all this tradegy, Ronnie Corbet could pair up with Ernie Wise in a "comedy" duo and do a saturday night special with Cannon and Ball (star guest Bruce Foprsyth)
