The Deathlist Poker Tournament 2024

Recommended Posts

Bloom-ing heck, Yarrow's done for, Doctor!

Actor and screenwriter Arnold of the Yarrow has become an ex-Exxillon at the age of 104. Death is a Z as they say, but hits for Bibliogryphon, Ladyfiona and diego to name but three, who all advance their positions except Ladyfiona still firmly ensconced at the top of the board.

Bonuses: diego makes a pair of 2s for 10 additional points and with their existing pair of 8s gains a further 15 Points for two pairs.

Perhaps gets yet another sub hit (ever thought of putting these guys in your main team?) and draws 6 Diamonds for 6 added points.

Leaderboard updated and will be brought forward on the next hit..

The Indians Are Going!

Rocky Colavito has run for home and The Curse Of Rocky Colavito is complete. The baseball player was an actual hit for Perhaps, who slides without being caught into third place. If only those dead subs had been main team hits, eh?

Keegan - Nul Points!

Yes, after a wait, the Sports Personality BBC website mentions Rupert Keegan's death, which shakes up the leaderboard somewhat. In fact several players gain a tasty 100 points as we hurtle towards the finishing line.

Those having the One Formula with the Formula One guy were Great Uncle Bulgaria, Toast, wannamaker, MariNisia, gcreptile and Captain Chorizo. Some of them close in on a podium place, but the champagne bottles are not quite being popped yet!

Bonus: Toast gains a pair of Queens for 10 additional points.

This is like a little Christmas miracle, dear @YoungWillz. When this difficult pool started (my first Deathlist Poker Tournament), my aim was to win 500 points. Long life to the Sports Personality BBC website! :D

It's a Big Yellow Banana!

Who knows much about NASCAR? Not me, let me tell you! Fred Lorenzen becomes another motor racer to leave life with dust in his wake. Brmm Brmm! Courtesy of a Mail Obit.

So who exactly was the Casino's Fast Freddy? Well, turns out it was diego with an unique hit.

Bonuses:

Pair of 8s (Diamonds and Clubs) - 10 Points.

Pair of 8s (Spades and Clubs) - 10 Points

Two Pair 8s (Diamonds and Clubs) and 2s - 15 Points

Two Pair 8s (Spades and Clubs) and 2s - 15 Points

Three 8s - 20 Points

Full House - three 8s and 2 2s - 80 Points.

Total Bonus - 150 Points added to 100 Points for the hit.

I hope Ladyfiona wasn't too comfortable, as diego consolidates second place and is only now 64 points behind her!

26. Joe Moneypenny
21. George Eastham - 7 Diamonds

George Eastham is a hit for @JoeMoneypenny:

Eastham on a free transfer!

What can be said of George Eastham, who has died late in the game? Well, he had spells at Newcastle, Arsenal and Stoke. A right troublemaker, he took Newcastle to court about their slavery contract and partially won. At Arsenal he was pelted with apples by the Newcastle fans - you know, when orchard fruit was a popular option on the standing terraces! An unused sub at the 1962 and 1966 World Cup finals, he went on to help Stoke City win the 1972 League Cup. While his spells at Arsenal as a player and Stoke as manager were tainted in failure, he toddled off to help coach black kids in apartheid South Africa.

Remembered here by JoeMoneypenny, a hit boosts them up the table a little.

I suppose I should chuck out a reminder to our esteemed players now.

If you think I have missed a hit or a QO has turned up for a so far non-obiting death, please feel free to report to the cash out desk to claim your valuable points. I'm only human you know!

Also, please be aware that I must sleep sometimes. I do try to update the leaderboard as soon as possible, so generally I don't need reminders about a hit occurring, although I do understand that a certain amount of panic sets in this time of year! If I hear a roar from the players room, either I have been caught dancing on the bar with my shirt off, the dolphin has escaped from the pool or a hit has occurred!

This isn't over until the last ding of the bell. With about 10 days to go for your teams to advance, this could be a busy time. Or it might be quiet. Either way - enjoy!

This is nuts, man!

Aye, Jimmy Carter has finally moved on, bringing much speculation about his seemingly immortal status to an end. This I may say, also marks the end of an early night for your beloved manager. The midnight oil has been burning and the work has to be done - what do I look like, a President?

What can be said about the likeable guy? Well, he so nearly could have lost to Ford - you know, the gibbering fool who pardoned Nixon! The States were in a state economically and Carter had issues with stagflation, high oil prices and an energy crisis. He found himself at odds with Congress and indeed his own Democratic Party. Much more at ease in his foreign policy, he gave Panama its Canal and signed the Camp David Accords with Sadat and Begin - although with hindsight, that certainly didn't do Sadat much good! The dying days of his Presidency were marked by the Iran hostage crisis - with Reagan's campaign actively working with Iran to delay the hostage release until after the US Election. But hey, who would have thought there was corruption at the heart of US democracy, eh?

His humanitarian work post-presidency is perhaps his greatest achievement. And with that, he has extended the cold dead hand of friendship to most (but not all) of our players, to whom I now turn. I'm not going to mention all the beneficiaries of his demise, suffice it to say my double bluff at the start of this game did not work and you picked him anyway!

Bonuses.

Captain Hemlock plays an A and gains 5 Points.

Great Uncle Bulgaria plays a Black Joker - 50 Points.

Death Impends plays a Black Joker - 50 Points.

Toast gains from a Pair of Ks (10 Points) and from Two Pair Ks and Qs (15 Points) - 25 Points.

MariNisia plays the A of Spades (the A of Spades) - 5 Points.

gcreptile plays a pair of 6s - 10 Points.

Grimgrass gains a Pair of 2s (10 Points) and Two Pair Js and 2s (15 Points) - 25 Points.

And now to our seemingly unshakeable leader Ladyfiona.

Pair 5s - 10 Points.

Two Pair (10 Diamonds + 10 Hearts + Pair 5s) - 15 Points.

Two Pair (10 Diamonds + 10 Spades + Pair 5s) - 15 Points

Two Pair (10 Hearts - 10 Spades + Pair 5s) - 15 Points

Full House (Three 10s and 2 5s) - 80 Points

A total of 135 Points.

Leaderboard updated.

@Death Impends and @Great Uncle Bulgaria, each of you has 48 hours from now to exchange your Joker for a card that may gave you additional points. If you need to discuss, either post on the thread or PM me for a chat, and I will try to help you if you need it.

Ok Black Joker = black card.

Given we are only hours away, your best and possibly only bet is to play J Clubs (not selected for your team) to make a pair of Js for 10 points.

Do you want to go for that option? I see nothing else that would help you.

Sounds good to me. Hard to believe this TJS with two hits is the same deadpooler who was a buzzsaw a decade back :D

Right, on to the Johnnie Walker update, and THEN I'll spin the Roulette Wheel.

Johnnie Walker Downed!

Now the only Johnnie Walker I like on New Year's Eve is the whisky kind, no water and no ice please! (Drinks remain available at the bar!).However, pop pickers, the disc jockey Walker decided to leave us at the end of the year - and I mean the very end! Starting off in pirate radio, it wasn't long before he joined Radio 1, then after a period fell out with them and fled to the USA. Realising his grand mistake, he returned, eventually landing up on Radio 1 again, then various other broadcasters before ending up on Radio 2. There, he was suspended for his alleged cocaine use. (Drugs not available anywhere in the Casino, whatever you do in your own time outside is your biz!). Soon he was ill, very ill, better, then really ill and now he has doubled my paperwork on a bloody holiday by going off to that great pirate ship in the sky (ah harrghh, ya scurvy knaves!).

So quite a few of our players have hits. The Killing Time, TQR, diego, Perhaps, Toast, Buffalo Phil, Torva Messor, wannamaker, gcreptile and Captain Chorizo all benefit from Walker walking the plank.

Bonuses:

TQR plays an A (5 Points) and gains from a pair of As (10 Points) - 15 Points.

Torva Messor plays the A of Spades (the A of Spades (5 Points) and also gains a straight [A, 2, 3, 4, 5] (30 Points) - 35 Points.

wannamaker plays an A - 5 Points

Captain Chorizo the big winner here, playing their missing 9.

Straight [8, 9, 10, J, Q] - 30 Points

Straight [9, 10, J, Q, K Hearts] - 30 Points

Straight [9, 10, J, Q, K Spades] - 30 Points

Total - 90 Points.

Leaderboard updated.

Remember, no-one wins until early January for late QOs, with the time limit for actual deaths slowly runs out today.

I have to get my dinner, so we shall spin that Roulette Wheel after I have eaten.
