wannamaker 1,407 Posted July 3 Welcome to another edition of Kill or Save. I suck at presenting stuff so I'll just go straight to the rules. If you wanna revisit the previous games, here are the links to their respective topics. 60s No.1s; 70s No.1s; 80s No.1s; 90s No.1s; 00s No.1s, 10s No.1 60s No.2s; 70s No.2s; 80s No.2s; 90s No.2s; 00s No. 2s 70s No.3s Christmas Special 2023 KoS HoF The Rolling Stones — Paint It, Black Donna Summer — I Feel Love Nena — 99 Red Balloons Madonna — Vogue Gorillaz — Dare The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale Of New York Barry Ryan — Eloise Queen — Somebody To Love A-Ha — Take On Me The Cardigans — Lovefool Sophie Ellis-Bextor — Murder On The Dancefloor David Bowie- Life on Mars? We've done this 12 times before, but here are the rules regardless: Each song starts with 20 points. You can vote once a day. Since we all live in different parts of the world with all sorts of different timezones, please add a date at the top of your votes to avoid any type of confusion (e.g. 3/7/24, 3th of July, Wed 3 Jul, etc.). Each day you can give 4 points and subtract 6 points to any song on the board, you can split your points between as many songs as you want. Placeholder posts are allowed, but if you don't edit your votes within 5 minutes, then the next person can go and do their votes. Consecutive votes are not allowed. Before voting, please listen to the songs of each round and vote according to your own opinions, don't vote for songs because they're high/low on the board or because of your opinions about the artist, only the song matters. Make sure you copy and paste the most recent voter's scoreboard when you take your turn to score. For your own ease, ‘paste as plain text’ to get rid of the previous poster’s formatting. Then, delete their +/- scores, add yours, adjust the song’s points total and make your scores bold. As an example, here's a random vote from last game's finale: Here are the UK No.3 songs of the 80's: Spoiler 05.01.80 Fiddler’s Dram- Day Trip to Bangor 19.01.80 KC and The Sunshine Band- Please Don’t Go 26.01.80 Madness- My Girl 09.02.80 The Nolans- I’m in the Mood for Dancing 08.03.80 Marti Webb- Take That Look Off Your Face 29.03.80 The Vapors- Turning Japanese 24.05.80 Michael Jackson- She’s Out Of My Life 28.06.80 Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway- Back Together Again 12.07.80 Stacy Lattisaw- Jump to the Beat 16.08.80 Sheena Easton- 9 to 5 20.09.80 Elvis Presley- It’s Only Love/Beyond the Reef 11.10.80 Madness- Baggy Trousers 08.11.80 Bad Manners- Special Brew 29.11.80 Dennis Waterman with the Dennis Waterman Band- I Could Be So Good For You 06.12.80 The Boomtown Rats- Banana Republic 13.12.80 Jona Lewie- Stop the Cavalry 28.02.81 Rainbow- I Surrender 04.04.81 Tony Capstick and the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band- Capstick Comes Home/The Sheffield Grinder 11.04.81 Stevie Wonder- Lately 04.07.81 Bad Manners- Can Can 01.08.81 Spandau Ballet- Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On) 22.08.81 The Human League- Love Action (I Believe in Love) 19.09.81 Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark- Souvenir 26.09.81 Ottawan- Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart) 17.10.81 Godley & Creme- Under Your Thumb 14.11.81 The Four Tops- When She Was My Girl 28.11.81 Earth, Wind & Fire- Let’s Groove 19.12.81 ABBA- One Of Us 09.01.82 Adam & The Ants- Ant Rap 16.01.82 Kool & The Gang- Get Down on It 20.02.82 Soft Cell- Say Hello, Wave Goodbye 27.02.82 The J. Saw the Vapors (supporting the Jam), the Rats and Madness live 40-odd years ago, they were all pretty good, although the Madness gig was interrupted by a mass brawl between two rival gangs of skinheads and the group were a bit subdued afterwards, understandably. Apologies in advance but, like Carly in the game before, I will direct every minus point of mine their way until they're gone. There few enough things in the world I truly, truly hate with every fibre of my being to be able to list them all right now: discrimination, exploitation, conservatism, interminable arrogance paired with wilful ignorance, cancer, crocs, mushrooms, South Park, Love Island, people trying to force others (me) to dance, the Nissan Juke and the music of OMD. 1

Absolutely everyone, without exception, who drives one has to take a special test to prove they are utterly clueless in the matter of controlling a motor vehicle. And trying to fake it by spending the whole test texting and emailing from their phone simply isn't good enough, examiners are on the lookout for this ruse. It's the fact that they think (they being both Nissan's design department and the wazzocks who buy the cars) they've got a 'zany' looking thing with the Juke with its stupid little bug-eyes and its fucking axe-sculpted rear end. It's a sickening pile of misery and not even all that bad technically, just fucking bland. It thinks it's a real catch, and it isn't. There's no substance, no originality, no innovation, no inspiration. It is utterly irredeemable. It's the Nadine Dorries of the automotive world and I fucking despise it. Yeah that was the sort of gap I was thinking. I would have been starting secondary school when these songs were in the charts. I may have felt equally disparaging about songs from the 50s

Age only comes into this by way of my parents both being fans of OMD and subjecting the household to their hideous music when I was young. I'm 28 this month. My playlist spans from the late 50s to last week.
