Mirtha Legrand: 96, has survived cancer twice, gallbladder operation in 2005, acute gastroenteritis and intestinal obstruction in 2019, emergency heart surgery in 2021 and pacemaker implantation earlier this year, looks better than the average 65-year-old. 2. Louis Farrakhan: 90, was on his last legs, "close to dying" with cancer, anemia, infections, "bleeding" and emergency surgery in 1998-1999 and then again "dying" in 2006 with terminal cancer. Later hospitalisations atleast in 2014 and 2015. As Ulitzer said, how is he still alive? 3. Wanda Półtawska (1921-2023): 101, survived concentration camps, terminal intestinal cancer in 1962 and critical conditions after a housefire in 2014 that left her badly disfigured. Again said to be in failing health early this year but seemingly bounced back. 4. Dennis Skinner: 91, has survived advanced bladder cancer, getting shot, heart and hip surgeries and a serious infection at 87. And of course atleast one death rumor. He's had a thread on this site for nearly 20 years and it was even originally made due to him having major health issues. One of the immortal potentials of British politics with Winnie Ewing who's been in failing health for around 15 years now. 5. Peter MacDonald (Hashkasilt Begay): 94, crook Navajo Nation leader who was "dying physically and mentally" in 1996 after heart attacks, suffering from diabetes, arthritis, high BP, Albertofujimorism and severe back problems. Still alive and wheeled around, has outlived five of his immediate successors who were all born after him. 6. Solihin G. P.: 97 next month with a health history of...severe stroke at 90 (2017) and atleast two or three hospitalisations since, seemed on his deathbed in 2018 and had rough covid and a death rumor in 2021. few more I've seemingly forgotten about - I'll add those who won't be on my July list here...: 7. Gherardo Hercolani Fava Simonetti: This guy has been in failing health for the last 12 years. 8. Ryan O'Neal (1941-2023): Leukemia survivor, stage IV prostate cancer over a decade ago. He looked like a jaundiced ballsack some years ago. 9. Akintola Williams (1919-2023): 103 and has been clinging on to life by a thread forever. ... Updated. Solihin GP (very old Indonesian politician and Governor, advisor of Suharto, lieutenant general) made a quite rare appearance on this video from yesterday. I mean, atleast better than what Ryan O'Neal must look like currently..

drol 11,945 Posted December 26, 2023 The 30 new immortals for 2024 have been decided! A brief recap of immortal folks who survived illnesses and hospitalizations this past year. Performance of the year: Jimmy Carter Entered hospice care in February and everyone thought the end would come within a few hours. It's been almost a year. Survived his wife Rosalynn in November, appeared to be very frail at her funeral and everyone thought the end would come within a few hours. He has been beating the odds for almost nine years, has been the King of Immortals for more than two, remains the unparalled immortal. Runner-up: Saalumarada Thimmakka Hospitalised in critical condition with respiratory failure, had heart attack while in hospital, underwent heart surgery, went "extremely critical"... none of this could ultimately finish her off, defying every existing physical law. Third-place: Kabosu the Original Doge The Doge was on the brink of death seven canine years ago, she recovered from leukemia and CKD, has looked like a zombie dog for years, but currently only suffers from minor ailments apparently. Out of Ratzinger, Pelé and Kabosu only Kabosu survives from those who were critical in December 2022. Zhang Lixiong Turned 110 and survived six months in ICU. Permanently on oxygen, last three years in hospital, advanced dementia. Another one who has defined the law of physics for some time. Joanne Woodward This underrated perfomer was said to be in hospice care and in her final days back in February. Although everyone who knows a bit about immortals could have smelt a rat instantly, her performance as a perennial late-stage Alzheimer's sufferer is remarkable, especially now that she has buried Vitti and Sevilla. Ma Shitu He bounced back from a severe illness which affected his memory, probably a stroke. At 108. What else do I need to say? David Musuguri Survived a month-long diabetes hospitalization at almost 104. Still looks younger than his age. Hu Qili Survived a nine-month long hospitalization which included a bout with COVID that instead killed his wife. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Survived hospitalizations in critical condition and being on life support despite late-stage COPD. Mario Zagallo Survived UTI despite decrepitude and extreme respiratory failure.

It's not often you see an immortal being declared by those outside of the DL community, so I'm interested to the exact the backstory behind this.

No, an immortal is an immortal for life (makes sense). So every year new immortals are created, but the previous ones retain their title, of course. It's additive. Immortals are ruled by their King, and King Jimmy has been reigning for more than two years following the death of King Bob (Dole).

Shincheonji Church of Jesus venerates him as a Messiah, meaning he is immortal and infallible. So far the immortality thing seems to be holding.

arghton 6,735 Posted January 1 Great list with the 2023 miracle hospitalisation survivors, recoverers and deserved DL, Crowdsourced names (Willie, Le Pen and David Graham). drol 11,945 Posted January 6 Mario Zagallo (1931-2024) "I'm very concerned about the health of Zagallo" (Pelé before being outlived by Super Mario) Insert here generic pun which involves Jimmy Carter outliving another one Age at death: 92 Known health issues: Irregular heartbeat in 2007, hospitalised in 2016, hospitalised with extreme respiratory failure in 2022, Pelé concerned for him, Pelé ends the years in a casket, Zagallo discharged. Hospitalised in July 2023 for UTI, discharged, hospitalised in December 2023. Cause of death: Went down like a true immortal, multiple organ failure. Alignment: Brazilian legend of football who was called Formiguinha (Little Ant) for his diminutive frame. Lived to 180 in footballer years.
arghton 6,735 Posted January 6 Impressive Zagallo made it this far with his heart and kidney issues, his health already mentioned in the Time Added first post from 2007. The most "How're they still alive" footy names I can think of are now probably Bilardo, César Luis Menotti (1938-2024) and Nelson Acosta. My post in the Cleric thread from yesterday mentioning that Tep Vong is "back doing his duties" has aged quite badly as he's been hospitalised today. Seems that being on IV at home is a bad sign with these very old and ill people like we already saw with KH Ali Yafie last year. Edit: Apparently Guy Warren has also survived a quadruple bypass and prostate cancer, and Red Farmer was expected dead within a week in December 2009. Tough people 2

drol 11,945 Posted January 16 Dear all, as you know we have had a problem with undying immortals for years and we were desperate no one would ever find a solution. Here I am to announce you great news! The Immortals have been beaten badly, most of death beaten to a pulp, then the remains were grinded until they resembled a dry power. Ladies and gentlemen, here's Torgo's Immortal Powder! It has a million and one uses! 1
