Dead Drummers

Recommended Posts

Seemingly a reference to a FB post, Everett Morton of The Beat has apparently died:

Saxa, Ranking Roger and Everett Morton all gone if true. Shocking.

Tweeter reporting that Australian drummer Des "Animal" McKenna has died:

Played for many years on Hey Hey It's Saturday. Might be more insight from our Antipodean friends.

Weirdly enough just yesterday I watched a Looney Tunes short he worked on.

I think this is the third Looney Tunes personnel to die less than 3 months before turning 100, following June Foray and Bob Givens. AFAIK only Hal Geer was able to make the third digit.

Finnish drummer Aikka Hakala (note: not rockabilly singer Aikka Hakala 1957-2021 who I have mentioned here before) dead at 75: https://www.hs.fi/kulttuuri/art-2000008475820.html

Played for Danny, Hector, Albert Järvinen, M. A. Numminen, Topi Sorsakoski and Freud, Marx, Engels & Jung. Freud, Marx, Engels & Jung was a Finnish outlaw country band with the name being a reference to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. All members of CSNY are still alive while two of the longtime members of FMEJ (formed 16 years after CSNY) have been dead for years.

Has got pretty much every QO going, which is interesting as someone picked a Wurzel last year (who was on their number 1 hit) and didn't get a passing mention in a QO at all.

It's to be expected.  Covid the cause of death, current band member, band actually touring at the moment.   Very newsworthy.

Never heard of them no matter what thread you dump the corpse in.

The Wurzels are genuinely legendary in England.  You wouldn't get it.

True, and I have been told no one in the U.K. has heard of Devo, which is astonishing.  Beyond astonishing.  Would be like a Yank saying they never heard of Human League.  As for the Wurzels, as we say in the court of law, ‘I leave you to your proofs’.

That’s absolute bullshit.

Edit: In fact, you should know it’s bs because a number of the Brits on here have discussed Devo in detail before.

Never understood people being so eager to post "Never heard of them", as if its either important or a source of pride.

For the record, I bought Q. Are we not men... on its release over here on the the strength of extensive radio play of Jocko Homo.
