 Ariel Sharon is 82 today.

He has been in a coma for four years now. Here's an article published last month, which provides some insight in to his grim predicament:

Good article - the crux being he now weighs 50 kgs. BMI and start point weight question marks all those 4 years ago. Any one know if he was more than 300lbs in 2006?

Taking that as a start point I'll say that we need to cross reference the Tammy Baker and Farrah Fawcett

threads. I get the impression Sharon will waste away until he is at the end of this mathmatical slope.

So looked for an www.ask.com item and came up with this:

Dear stancranley-ga

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question.

According to most sources 78 year old Israeli Prime Minister Ariel

Sharon is 5?7? tall and weighs 255 lbs. Let?s make a comparison of

that information against leading insurance provider Met Life?s chart

for ideal weight for men:

Ideally a 5' 7" man of small build should weight in the range of 138-145 lbs.

Ideally a 5' 7" man of medium build should weight in the range of 142-154 lbs.

Ideally a 5' 7" man of large build should weight in the range of 149-168 lbs.

That said, Mr. Sharon is at best, 100 lbs or more overweight

regardless of his build considering his age and existing health

problems.

Obesity is determined by the rating one has on the Body Mass Index

(BMI) scale. According to the Centers for Disease Control obesity is

generally defined as a condition in which a person has in excess of 30

on the Body Mass Index (BMI) scale. Below 18.5 is considered

underweight, normal is 18.5 ? 24.9, overweight is 25.0 ? 29.9, and

30.0 and above is considered obese. Using Mr. Sharon?s data in the CDC

calculator he rates 39.9 BMI, which is inarguably in excess of merely

obese and is officially in the realm of what is generally considered

morbidly obese.

As with most people who suffer health problem related to chronic

obesity, Ariel Sharon has been overweight for many years. In fact, he

was never a slender man. In this 1955 photo Mr. Sharon (standing,

second from left) is appears to be a fairly fit soldier of relatively

ideal weight for his build:

Looked at a few other items and got range of heights as both 5' 6" and 5' 8" so 5' 7" is a fair ballpark.

I'll take the 255lbs start point (but I think that could be a bit low for him).

He now comes in at 110lbs.

From wiki:

For these individuals, the current value settings are as follows: a BMI of 18.5 to 25 may indicate optimal weight; a BMI lower than 18.5 suggests the person is underweight while a number above 25 may indicate the person is overweight; a BMI below 17.5 may indicate the person has anorexia nervosa or a related disorder; a number above 30 suggests the person is obese (over 40, morbidly obese).

I'm getting that he currently has a BMI of between 17.2 and 17.3

It was 40.0

again from wiki:

A BMI nearing 15 is usually used as an indicator for starvation and the health risks involved, with a BMI <17.5 being an informal criterion for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa.

Farah died on the 25th June 2009 - we were getting a BMI of 13.67 on 21st April 2009. Losing 2lbs a month I would put her final weight at 82lbs, and a BMI of 13.0

by all accounts TFBM died with a BMI of 12.12

Sharon has lost 145lbs in 48 months - that's 3lbs a month.

I'll say an exit post of BMI of 12.5

Now if that's a straight line graph of weight loss from now on at 3lbs a month he will only be 80lbs in Dec'2010 and be at this 12.5 BMI.

At 83lbs weight in Nov' he would have the BMI of FF

At 77lbs weight in Jan 2011 he would have a BMI of 12.1 (TFBM)

Below 76lbs the calculator provides no result and says check your info!

At this rate he only has 12 months max.

P.S. I've been looking at low BMI deaths

Karen Carpenter = 13.4

Ana Carolina Reston = 13.4

Luisel Ramos = 14.5

Elle Ramos = 16.0

However Kate Moss has survived a reported BMI of 14.0, said that she normally has a BMI of about 17.3

And Stephanie Naumoska won a Miss Australia title with a BMI of about 15.1

Sharon at this rate will get to about 13.9 BMI in September 2010.

Aye but Sharon is under constant medical supervision. If his weight gets too low then they'll just put a bit more lard in his drip, or whatever.

He's also considerably less likely to die of auto-erotic asphyxiation or of getting run over by a bus than most other people, which statistically speaking raises his life expectancy considerably.

Meet Ariel Sharon in a coma.

To me all that looks very sugar coated!

Sure we got drift of news that Sharon was very low BMI (p.s. said to weigh 50kg in Feb 2010) and I don't think the doctors would have him proped up on his back - more likely he would be flat on his back with one pillow.

As for having his eyes open? They would dry within minutes without the blink reaction and if he had any ability to have nerve input (which I'm sure he has none) would become very painfull.

To care for any length of head hair would be extra trouble - and I'm sure this would be kept very short.

Oh and loads of visable scars round his flip top head would jar too much for the artist to reflect.

In short I guess it's total BS.

Apparently, he's ready to go home.

breathing independently... occasionally needed an oxygen mask.

That'll curtail his son's business activities. The younger Sharon has been lording it in the hospital, wheeling and dealing at his dad's bedside.

Dead pool wise it does make the future harder to predict. On the one hand that is an impressive recovery and evidence that we'd be daft to pick him

On the other hand this man has enemies, some armed and well trained, and if he's remotely in the sights of a weapon, he won't exactly be able to dodge out of the way.

I was thinking he was being let home because they think he will die soon

That's just the impression I got of the situation

It would be a brilliant shock to the crowd here if Ariel awoke and regained conciousness to such an extent that he could communicate with others and recall passed events. Two or three hours later, after finding our what year it is, he has another stroke and falls back into the trance! Death improbable.

Ironically his coma may have prolonged his life what with losing all that fat and reduced stress etc.I think his parents lived to their 90s so we may have a long wait yet...

Hmmmm - maybe it isn't as dire as we thought...

unless, of course, they are simply sugarcoating the situation.

For what my opinion is worth - maybe we should reevaluate his placing on the list as well? :scratchhead:

Maybe under his description you should add "State Terrorist". It's more befitting than his current description of ex-prime minister given that he spent much of his life committing or overseeing actions of terrorism and massacres (Sabra and Shatila), and a mere few years as prime minister.

prehaps this is the first whispers of him being taken off lifesupport?

if he makes it to 90 (he's allready more than halfway there) maybe his sons will come to the obvious conclusion and switch the machine off.even without the coma he m ight never have lived to 90 anyway
