A bad, bad woman indeed, Mrs Thatcher. I shall be buying a new pair of tackety dancing-boots specially.

 

She started us off on the slippery slope towards moral bankruptcy from which there is now probably no escape. A woman without any human sympathy whatsoever, who fuelled by her insane prejudices inhumanely applied rigid capitalist criteria at a time when there was already great hardship.

 

I will be very pleased to see the back of her, and will be barring no holds in my vociferous disapprobation of those who admire her shamelessly wicked deeds.

Why is everyone in the UK so down on Maggie? My own limited understanding and vague recollection was Britain in the late '70's was going exactly nowhere, and that Mrs. T, by fair means or foul, got the country pointed in the right direction.

She took brutal advantage of Labour's dire failure to present a decisive and competent alternative to trample with jack-boots over social justice, cohesion and workers representation.

 

Do you think people went on strike for no reason? Don't forget the image you had of strikers from the press was also orchestrated by the Tories (even before they were in power).

 

She got the country moving, but not in the right direction. Also her murdering of British industry did absolutely nothing for unemployment. As didn't her privatisation of anything and everything.

 

This is quite a fair description of some of what she did.

And despite your rant, she did win 3 elections, which means more people thought she was going to be better for the country than the other choices available.

PS I think it hightly likely she'd get a Ceremonial funeral, given how long she was prime minister, and her status on the world stage. Not to mention the politicians wouldn't want to seem small minded not to give her one.

I'd like to know where one could find an unbiased view of someone as contentious as the Thatch.

I'm just reading Thatcher's book, "The Downing Street Years" You have to admire her clear-headedness and efficiency in the way she did what she did. In stark contrast to her bumbling, indecisive predecessors.

Just in certain areas where she appeared to have psychopathic prejudices, she employed the "decapitation to cure a headache" technique rather more enthusiastically than was strictly necessary.

 

A woman of incredible talents which, had they been used for good, would have made the world a much better place in my humble, biased, ill-informed opinion.

 

And no, I'm not really that keen on what is known as "democracy", but don't get me started on that.

 

I think she probably will get a state funeral, though there will be much opposition to it.

Perhaps a little discreet sponsorship would be in order, to ease the burden to the taxpayer?

I'm impressed by your willingness to read work from people you disagree with.

Or her successors, for that matter. Mrs Thatcher surely was the best educated UK PM of the 20th century, probably the smartest and arguably the evilest.

I think she probably will get a state funeral, though there will be much opposition to it.

Unconfirmed reports on the AP news network tonight say that former British PM Lady Thatcher has tonight been admitted to a London hospital after suffering a stroke.There is no word on the serioousness of her condition although the silence is thought to be ominious.I will keep ypou posted on latest developments.

I can't find anything either, except this link that suggests that her previous strokes were smoke-related .... caused by years of inhaling Denis's cigarette smoke (he smoked 60 a day)

In 1941, he met Margaret Kempson at an officers' tea dance: she bore a striking resemblance to a certain Margaret Roberts, who was to enter his life much later. They married in March 1942, never lived together because of the circumstances of the war, and were divorced in 1948, believing that they had nothing in common. Sir Denis was always reluctant to talk about the matter

I couldn't find anything about her life after divorce, I doubt if she counts as famous anyway.
