People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

Recommended Posts

George Cole / Arthur Daley.

I would have definitely gone for Dead in the Dead or Alive game, but he's been on an advert for a drama on BBC with some woman that used to be in Eastenders

I just found out that Chuck Yeager was alive from reading another thread here, but I'd probably known already and forgotten. I do tend to get him confused with Charles Lindbergh... Lindbergh was the one who hated Jews, I think. :(

ONE!

It'll be a better world when we cut it down to one.

I've thought for hours once before, about how Adolf Hitler could with stand such stiff hate, and be so cold hearted. And never feel one drop of guilt in his empty conscience. His pathetic inner self, and hopelessness made him who he was. It was revenge. It was payback time. Not any conscious walking human being could suffer more then him. He believed this and within this man he held no mercy. For what ever his downfall could have been, he wanted the reflection shined on every living creature. The wish for all to suffer deeply in your heart is the face of true evil. And when Berlin was captured, the mad man Hitler came out more and more, demanding suicides of his own soldiers, and harsh direction to top SS commanders. Hitler failed, but for the second time. The first failure which led to his fallen glory may never be revealed, in the second he took a revolver to his head. I believe Adolf Hitler died long before 1945. What long lived in him was not of his own.

I don't know if this is the place for it, but it's my two cents.

He's a cold heated snake,

Look into his eyes,

Oh ho,

He's been telling lies.

I'm a bit surprised to still be alive this morning. Although not as surprised to find I was quoting Paula Abdul lyrics last night... ;)

For the lazy among us, and in case it vanishes ...

1901 - Eric Clavering

1904 - Doris Eaton-Travis

1905 - Carl Esmond, Charles Lane and Lilian Oldland

1906 - Barbara Kent

1907 - Leon Askin, Norah Baring, Dorothy Boyd, Anne Grey, Emily Perry and Renee St Cyr

1908 - Eddie Albert, Dorothy Bartlam, Sir John Mills and Ford Rainey

1909 - Marguerite Allan, Bruce Bennett, Victoria Hopper, Luise Rainer, Gloria Stuart and Carla Laemmle

1910 - Constance Cummings, Griffith Jones, Marc Lawrence, Al Lewis, Artie Shaw, Simone Simon, Anita Page, Mary Jackson, Edmundo Ros and Geoffrey Toone

Perry turned 100 the other day. Maybe this thread can be merged somewhere else, but I figured it might be the best place to mention it.

By the way, that post was almost three years ago and, out of all of them, Eaton-Travis, Lane, Kent, Perry, Bartlam (at least according to IMDb), Allan (ditto), Rainer, Stuart, Laemmle, Page, and Ros are still alive.

Claverling, Oldland, Baring, Boyd, and Grey were already dead at the time of the discussion too.

Fair play to you Paul for digging that one out of the rectum of Deathlist.

What on earth made me bring this to life?

In the desert

If the beautiful sin goddess came to speak with me and she spoke ' my man you are a legend, to me you live forever'

But colonials die young and they perish to horrible diseases' but stars light the night and shine for lifetimes.

I would tell her let the colonial man die, let the star live. Live! Live! Come alive!

I'll pick him wall to wall on my deadpools next year and then ring him up on January 1st to remind him he's still alive.

Does anyone know if Aleister Crowley's children are still alive? I know two died in childhood but I can't find any dates of death for the others. They are:

Lola Zaza (b.1906)

Astarte Lulu (b.1920)

Aleister Attaturk (b.1938)

Surely it's possible that at least one of them is still living.

The following "borrowed" without permission from " Lashtal.com" a site dedicated to Mr Crowley.

Charles Edward d'Arquires (formerly known as Randall Gair Doherty formerly known as Aleister Attaturk formerly known as Aleister Macalpine), b. 2 May 1937, Newcastle-on-Tyne, died on 20 November 2002 in Chalfont St Peter, Bucks. All of the above is from the death certificate, which has an incorrect date and year of birth (mistakenly giving 11 May 1939). His birth certificate gives the name as Randal Giair Doherty, with that odd spelling.

I guess that answers your question.........

As noted, to announce the centenary of Emily Perry. A viable candidate for the DDP, WDP and perhaps even the HDP as she's likely to attract some press in the UK, given her most notable role - especially if the likes of Cole Kugel got his obit.

I think he may have got a mention in passing some years ago, but I am surprised to find that Sven Hassel is still alive at 90 - surely one of the greatest Nazi War-Porn writers that Denmark has ever produced.

Siegfried Lenz. Only in his early eighties but just another one of those I'd forgotten hadn't died. He always reminds me of an embarrasing moment in my A-level German class. We had to do a book review and I'd chose something by him unaware it was rather famous. I'd only read half of it and thought I could get away with it but of course I didn't.

It seems a fair number of Gruppe 47 are still alive and getting on. May be a few ideas for the future.

95 year old Otto is doing pretty well as I recall, in London this year to get the freedom of the city. Also has some brownie points on the back of - allegedly - thumping Ian Paisley as the bog-eyed one was ejected from the European parliament for denouncing the last pope as a blasphemer.

That brought back memories, Dr No and his silly little poster guldering " We pronounce you the Anti-Christ". ;)

Old Otto should have - allegedly - thumped him a bit harder !
