Tuber Mirum 125 Posted November 30, 2005 All hail to the late Mr. George Best of Belfast! One of the finest Association footballers of the recent past. Often scoring two goals in one game or even three, Warming the spectators' hearts and filling them with glee. And when not playing football he was frequently to be seen engaging in carnal congress with Miss World or some other beauty queen. And with his money he cannot be said to have been ungenerous Spending it freely on fornication, strong drink and also on Morris Marinas. Regrettably his internal organs were unable to endure the abuse of his inability to consume exclusively orange or any other non-alcoholic juice. Thus was he condemned to lie unconscious in a hospital bed, Until one tragic day an eminent physician examined him and pronounced him dead. Thus ended the life of George Best of Belfast. Without whom Manchester United would possibly have come last. One of the greatest association footballers of recent years and whose passing will among his admirers undoubtedly have provoked many tears.
scsibear 4 Posted November 30, 2005 I was recently told a story that apparently whatever the team was he was playing for at the time (I'm assuming Man U) they needed 6 goals to go through/win to the next round. It was an impossible task..but miraculously enough they did get the 6 required goal AND it was Georgie B who scored every one of them....so I hear !
scsibear 4 Posted November 30, 2005 I also wanna include here that Gazza (Paul Gascoigne) may be picking up the baton from where Georgie B left off.

Godot 149 Posted December 1, 2005 The world's greatest foot baller dies in 2005. You couldn't have put money on it, it was such a hot bet. Yet nowhere do I see him mentioned on any list. What kind of a site is this?
Godot 149 Posted December 1, 2005 Ah, I see now he was discussed but not with any great medical knowledge. Liver transplants can't stand up to alcohol abuse. There should be more discussion of younger "hopefuls". I wouldn't give Pete Doherty more than a year or two.
Cerberus 302 Posted December 1, 2005 I believe Mr Doherty has been mentioned in passing ...

I vowed never to drink that much again .... and I have kept my vow. (YIPPEE ... my 1200th post!) My longest continual seesion was from Friday 18:00 to Monday 07:00, non stop. Some years ago now, whilst I was serving in HM Forces. I was drunk on parade on the Monday and was escorted (dragged) from the parade ground to the nick without passing GO. Too old to do "Three Day Eventing" now, the best (ha ha) I can do these days is about 4 pints..........

maryportfuncity 10,639 Posted December 1, 2005 I think the above has got mangled in the telling. If I remember rightly the rumour was that Manchester United - assuming Northampton would be a massacre - set out to help Best score six because it had been years since anyone had done it and the previous person was their own Dennis Law. They knew it would be good for business/publicity. This might explain the two they leaked in thrashing Northhampton 8-2. England set out to do the same against - I think - Malta in the mid seventies setting them all up for Malcolm McDonald who became the first England striker in decades to score five in a match. Canadian Paul 97 Posted December 2, 2005 Maradona might make a good bet for next year. He doesn't look too cracking these days. Maradona has been heavily discussed and most of us would reccommend to GR that he should not be reinstated for a second term at DL.
