The Hartlepool Deadlypool

Recommended Posts

I just found this article which says this:

De bekendste Belgische golfer is Flory Van Donck (1912-1992). Hij is de vijfvoudige winnaar van de Dutch Open.

No problem, luckily I discovered that "Flory Van Donck" is actually Haitian Creole for "William Tenn", so there's no problem here at all. ;)

The winner of the 2009 Hartlepool Deadlypool appears to be the team named "Why Not?". With (6) hits and ? points not at all bad. Congratulations.

A close second place was attained by some person called Notapotato.

Just out of interest, would anybody care to own up to being "Why Not?"?

I admit it. I am Why Not?.

The performance of Why Not? in the HPDP is honorable to say the least. They manage six hits, five of which were in the 1-2-3-4 and 5 positions.

However, the new HPDP champion is ..

Drum roll please ..

Notapotato.

I suspect that a place called Hartlepool was once his hometown. I cannot be sure of this, but it seems to make perfect sense. For all I know Notapotato could have originated on planet Venus thousands of years ago. .

Actually Banshees - I win.

Which is quite surprising given that I didn't enter...

Here's a question now that John Babcock has died... how will Flory Van Donck count in terms of the order that the candidates died in? Does it act as if he died (aside from me getting the points) and adjusting all the hit values thusly, or does he just remain as if he was a living person awaiting death?

An interesting question to which I will endeavour to provide an answer in the near future.

Try asking it on the HDB, perhaps Bellender has an idea.

I didn't know John Babcock had died. Is there an obit somewhere?

I'm sure that Stuart Udall will get a proper obit soon enough; it's nice to have someone who was on the top of my list go for a change...

I see Margaret Moth has died. That means points for me, and perhaps more interestingly for DDT who looks to consolidate his lead somewhat.

In other news, two notification emails bounced. I won't deduct points immediately because the potential recipients wouldn't have known about it.

This is because Lived so Let's Die and Vaagheid both have Hotmail or otherwise Microsoft related email addresses which think notapotato.com is a spammer.

Now I could go to the trouble of creating something called an SPF record and registering it with Microsoft, but I don't know how and quite frankly I can't be bothered finding out. Quite apart from vigorously not wanting to support Microsoft's Quest For The Posession Of All World Knowledge.

Wouldn't it be much nicer if those two teams could just provide me with a non-Microsoft alternative email address?

Did you send a notification email? I think my spam catcher didn't bounce it, just ate it. I've given it a good talking to, so would it cost me any points to have it forwarded again? Or is this an issue better left for Bellender?

I'll send it to you again when I get around to sending it to Vaagheid and that other chap who still hasn't given me an alternative address.

There are a couple of facts to be corrected in it too as someone very kindly pointed out.

Interestingly enough, I seem to have got to the bottom of the rejected emails problem.

It is the word "socialism" which contains the substring "cia lis" (comes up as "SPAM" on deathlist too if you write it together) which I am assured is the name of a proprietary brand of erection enhancement medicine or somesuch.

Does anyone know a simile or perhaps a euphemism for socialism?

This is obviously a capitalist conspiracy of the manufacturers and distributors of those pills and anti-spam software vendors to make the life of online socialists miserable. Come the revolution they'll be the first against the wall.

Does anyone know a simile or perhaps a euphemism for socialism?

Perhaps we can introduce a nice bright colour as a symbol? Dayglo green, for example.

regards,

Hein

I'm in the middle of updating the site. I have to be up early tomorrow so I'll do the rest tomorrow evening.

The scoreboard is up to date, DDT doing exceptionally well.

Ronnie James Dio died on my birthday which earned a nice bonus for a couple of people.

I revised SttG's score downwards as I clearly forgot that Michael Foot was never Prime Minister.

Florrie Baldwin is dead (45 pointer for me), reported in national press and linked hereabouts on world's oldest thread.

I also had Joe Stone and Raymond Hewlett - both dead in 2009 - but had Dio on the subs' bench, so I'm guessing he comes on for one of those unfit to start, and nets me points, right?

I didn't know Joe Stone was dead, I'll look into that, but I'm not entirely convinced that Hewlett is dead. The only report I've seen was in The Sun, which doesn't qualify as a valid obit for the HDP.

Well I didn't get a sub for Flory Van Donck, although the way it worked out was that all the ones below got bumped up by five points, so I have no complaints there, considering that I picked someone who had been dead for over a decade and a half on more than one occasion.

Unless you're just pulling some more of that classic Cumbrian banter, in which case, move along, nothing to see here.

Just out of curiosity, who is in your avatar? Could that be the president of the German knives association or something along those lines? I saw it on TV once.

If so, the guy is from a different planet and they left him here; the accent ..

If it's the same guy, I couldn't keep a straight face if I met him in real life. I couldn't.

Lots of us didn't know Stone was dead but a retrospective report linked hereabouts suggested he died in December.

Florrie Baldwin is deffo deed, and written up as such.

NAP - oh, ah, I've just noticed I've got Robert Byrd at the top of my team sheet - can I have 50 points please?

That's now up from last!

I suppose so.

I'll get Bellender on to it.

NAP - I've got Philip Carlo (08.11.10) on my team sheet - can I have some more points please?

Quite a few others will need points for...

Simon MacCorkindale 14.10.10

Sir Norman Wisdom 04.10.10

Gloria Stuart 26.09.10

Cyril Smith 03.09.10

Laurent Fignon 31.08.10

NAP: I'm struggling to recognise my performance as accurate on your scoreboard. Somewhere - presumably in your e-mails - you'll have a record of the following entry:

Ten Stiff Bowling 2010

Zelda Rubinstein – DEAD – 27 JAN

Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi

Florrie Baldwin – DEAD – 8 MAY

Ronnie Biggs

Joe Stone - DEAD (in 2009)

Kama Chinen – DEAD – 2 MAY

Eydie Gorme

Laurent Fignon – DEAD – 31 AUG

Raymond Hewlett – Paedophile Scum – DEAD (in 2009)

Basil D’Oliveria

Subs bench

Ronnie James Dio

Norman Wisdom

You'll notice I've added the dates of death. Four of the first team are dead. Clearly there's the somewhat complicated problem that in good faith I fielded two stiffs on the start line and the HPDP rules say nothing about that and whether my two dead in 2010 subs count. But, even so, I have four genuine deaths and - I think - more than the 113 points for two deaths currently showing. Chinen and Fignon both got international press coverage, including UK write ups, on death.
