Sutherland's Law and Taggart among her other TV roles, though a radio voice for years.

RIP.

That show has the most magical and heavenly  theme tune.

Played her twin sister Florence as well in High Road which was much more like the real actress apparently. Mrs Mack was a tremendous character in the 80s - became softer as the years went by. And was the inspiration for a certain Mrs Overall name!

Getting rumbles that Alec Monteith who played Dougal Lachlan in Take The High Road also died on Tuesday. Alex also an STV /BBC announcer in the day from memory.

Edit - Wiki has it.

Mrs Mack's hats... oh dear! :D

Sad news. Always used to pop in at Luss whenever we were travelling in the area.

My mum used to be an avid watcher back in the day and, as a young man, I'd casually glance over at it and, well, I liked it!

I never remembered her real name but, like Dougal, Mrs Mack was pretty iconic.

I think it showed a Scotland that the rest of the UK didn't really know existed, a beautiful place etc. etc.

I always assumed that Mrs Overall was based on Crossroads 'I will just stand there like a lemon because I have forgotten my lines' Amy Turtle.

She even had the same accent.

Just sayin, like.

My apologies, as someone working yesterday I didn’t have chance to stop, think and wonder if he died in the Spring- give the Equity release from 9th Nov only hit The TTHR fan groups yesterday just after Gwyneths announcement.

Next time I will personally scour the three forums before posting anything to satisfy your demands.

Edit- just discovered sadly Peter Falk has died. (is it too late to post and be first….)

No need to do that. Just use the search function. That's what it's there for. It's quick, polite and saves us all time repeating ourselves.

There’s a good thread running on the Crossroads fan site on Facebook about actors still alive and some telling comments.

Jane Rossington (Jill) is in very poor health aged 78.

David Lawton (Chef Mr Booth) is 96 and still going strong. He’s losing his sight and hearing by all accounts but still living at home and supported by his friends.

George Little, who appeared in a couple of episodes of The Crusade for Doctor Who, being reported dead aged 93: https://www.britmovie.co.uk/forum/cinema/obituaries/104536-george-little-1928-2022-rip (Can't link to FB)

Played the part of Hone in Fiddler On The Roof, and Reverend Edward Ruskin in Emmerdale Farm.

Notable character actor, worth checking his credits on IMDB at the link above..

For those diehard Emmerdale fans and from the time I was watching it, here's George Little's first appearance on Emmerdale. I've been nice and started it at Part Two when he comes in, Ah, Amos Brearley et al, when soaps were soaps and not turgid fireballs of death and fury.

Ok one constructive post while I'm here ....

any Corrie geek knows the show was originally commissioned for just 13 episodes, which is quite astonishing given it's now on 10,535 and counting and surely not a million years from it's 13,000th episode. (around 2030 based on fag packet calculations if it carries on at a stupid 6 weekly episodes)

Named characters from the first 13 episodes of the long running soap.

In fairness, with one of two exceptions there was some decent longevity here especially in the female actors of the early years with at least four making it into their 90s and several more into their late 80s.

Wasn't sure where to post this but went for this thread in the end. Former Emmerdale executive producer between 1975 and 1979 (272 episodes in all), David Cunliffe, died on New Year's Day.

Also had a long and distinguished career in television as a director.
