Lady Die 63 Posted March 22, 2006 Reading this got me thinking about how I'd like to die. Being eating by a crocodile wouldn't be high on my list. Living to 90 & going "peacefully in my sleep" is my current favourite. Do other DL-ers have a preferred mode of death?
TLC 9 Posted March 22, 2006 Reading this got me thinking about how I'd like to die. Being eating by a crocodile wouldn't be high on my list. Living to 90 & going "peacefully in my sleep" is my current favourite. Do other DL-ers have a preferred mode of death? Hopefully lying in bed somewhere, preferably asleep; considering my lifestyle at the moment, the chances are it'll be bed, office or train, in that order of likelihood. Actually, some sort of booze & drugs fuelled OD might be as fun a way to go as any other, as long as I pass out before my body starts breaking down & convulsing etc. I want to go out only using the good sh*t! Oh, and I'd like to be aware of my impending demise for long enough to tell one of my flatmates to remove anything in my house of a 'sensitive' nature before my parents go through my things after I've gone. Not sure if all those options are compatible, by the time I find out it'll be too late to let anybody know. Funny what you worry about even in your 30's isn't it? Star Crossed 33 Posted March 22, 2006 I'd prefer to die by my own hand, in some way. Either something very quick or something dramatic. Or both. In any of the below cases, I'd take some ecstacy first and smoke a joint or two; it's a good way to get yourself relaxed and in the mood, I reckon. Order of preference:- 1) Hand Grenade. 2) Bullet to the head. 3) Skydive without deploying my canopy. As a kid growing up at the height of the cold war, I used to think that dying at the epicentre of a nuclear blast would be pretty cool (or pretty hot, more probably). Certainly very efficient. People say that drowning is very peaceful, but I wouldn't be up for trying it. Those first few breaths of water must hurt. A lot. The feeling of panic would be awful. The worst thing, imho, would be a protracted, bedridden death by disease or malfunction. Sudden is good. Sudden is my friend.

Windsor 2,233 Posted March 22, 2006 Being killed while heroically saving people from a burning building. And I had better get the George Cross for my efforts!
The Four Horsemen 26 Posted March 22, 2006 I always thought that peacefully having just watched Newcastle Utd win the league and cup double would be the best way to go but that scenario means I'm going to have to live forever...........
Six 23 Posted March 22, 2006 I think I'd like to be eaten by a dinosaur. Yep. That's how I'm going to die.
Star Crossed 33 Posted March 22, 2006 People say that drowning is very peaceful How do they know?? Has anyone drowned and then come back to tell everyone all about it? Hmmm... according to this account, the common belief that drowning is peaceful is utter bunkum. I suppose a lot of what "people say" is equally ill-informed. The pressure of the water caused a stabbing pain in my eyes and ears... try to keep your head when water begins to seep into your already tortured lungs and your body is a mass of pain and you know you are dying... I remember that I screamed down there against a solid wall of water—I remember that I threshed and bobbed, but only succeeded in burrowing my head into the slime of the lake floor... Ouch. Don't try this at home, kids!
beebee 1 Posted March 22, 2006 space ship explosion, a nice big, sparkley one. but, i'll probably go like my mom's family. somewhere close to 95-100 yr, i'll get pnuemonia and die from it. it's tough to kill them ol' hillbillies. then i'm coming back and haunt a few deserving people. I suppose a lot of what "people say" is equally ill-informed.The [snip snip] floor... Ouch. Don't try this at home, kids! I think the drugs OD is looking more & more appealing, although I'll probably leave it for this weekend. I think for me the least appealing but not unusual method of death (I'm hoping torture is not a likely way for me to go!) would be burning to death. Having escaped one house fire, I'm hoping I've dodged death's attempt to take me that way. Because of course that's how it works. Of course, when running dramatically from the fire, I suddenly noticed I was wearing a vest-top and holding a small child. And the building exploded just as I dived into a ditch out of harm's way. Or was that Bruce Willis starring in All Of His Films, I can't remember? It was a few years ago now.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted March 22, 2006 A cyanide capsule would be my first choice for a quick exit. A bullet to the brain would be a second choice. If you do choose to shoot yourself in the head, then place the barrel of the gun in the mouth and not against the side of your head. This method is far more efficient as the bullet doesn't have to penetrate bone before hitting the brain. Not so good. Better.
Brinsworth House Baiter 12 Posted March 22, 2006 I'd prefer to die by my own hand, in some way. Nope....I'll leave it....but I'm so very tempted, lol... For me it would have to be the whole bottle of bourbon & pills death of a rock star thing, but knowing my luck I'd get the full Elvis version, conking out on the bog with my kecks around my ankles & porn at my feet...dying by my own hand... damn, I've just gone full circle... Handrejka 1,904 Posted March 22, 2006 Suicide in a very expensive hotel room. Or perhaps die of a mysterious but not too horrible disease. I'd like my death to have an air of mystery about it. I don't want to die in an accident as I'd like to be aware that I'm dying. I'd also like to get to goodbye to people I love
Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted March 22, 2006 heart attack from excitement as England win the World Cup. It used to be with me scoring the winning goal, but as that's clearly not going to happen then just watching it on TV would be fine.
Godot 149 Posted March 22, 2006 On the job, definitely. Sadly I suspect it might be strangulation by Mrs Godot (still that can also be on the job I do believe, haven't tried it but have been to enough inquests of those who have). Godot CFY

Boudicca 702 Posted March 22, 2006 Burning to death would be pretty horrible, but it would be fairly speedy, I should imagine. Still, I'd rather that than to be buried alive. In my view, that has to be the most terrifying way to die, but then I'm not keen on enclosed spaces.. If I had to die an unnatural death, I've always thought carbon monoxide poisoning would be a good option. I love the smell of exhaust fumes / petrol / anything toxic. That aside, people in dodgy council / student flats / house fires seem to suffer quite little, passing away in their sleep. T.F and I had this discussion fairly recently r.e "The Falling Man". There's no way I'd jump from The World Trade Centre unless I was fairly confident I'd lose consciousness before impact. What an awfully morbid thread, Lady D! Well done
l1llywh1te 0 Posted March 22, 2006 I would definitely prefer dying peacefully in my sleep. However, I have always had a fear of drowning or being strangled. IMO, I believe that the way we die is based on our fears. I developed this opinion a long time ago when Natalie Wood died - she always had a fear of dark water and drowning. So, maybe it is kind of lame to base my opinion on one occurrence, but I'm sure there are "others" out there who died in a way that they feared the most. in eternum+ 22 Posted March 22, 2006 For a while now I've had the strangest sensation that when I die, it'll be behind the wheel of a car as a result of my driving very fast. I consider myself (!!!!) to be quite a good driver, but do like to go FAST... well, very fast, actually. So as long as I don't injure anyone else in "the incident", I believe this would be the best way for me to die. Now that I think a bit more about it, I believe that driving at top speed off a cliff would be great. I mean, you get the rush of the speed, then the rush of being airborn, then the rush of freefalling, and then (as long as the cliff was sufficiently high enough) you'd never survive the impact in any way. A huge, flaming fireball at the end of it all would certainly add to the drama of the moment. Of course, I'm not the sort to commit suicide, so all of this would have to occur as the result of a series of misadventures. And given that I am currently living in the middle of the Great Plains, well... not many cliffs around. But what a great way to die! I find the mere thought of it quite exciting! Life Begins at 5 o'clock 7 Posted March 22, 2006 It'd be fun to be burned as a heretic or fighting a lion. Most likely though I'll probably wind up being cut loose from my space craft (because of my terminal disease I'll be willing to sacrifice myself for others, probably the only time in my life) while my comrades continue their journey back to Earth without me. Either that or somebody will through a bunch of fifty cent pieces at me while I laugh manacially at them as they desperately cling to a girder to avoid being impaled on the scrap metal below. Said fifty cent pieces will cause me to lose my balance, and in a cruel twist of fate, it will be I who am impaled on the aforementioned scrap metal.

Still think it'd be a great way to die, overstated lesbianism notwithstanding.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted March 23, 2006 Severe and irreversible alcohol poisoning causing liver failure that I'm too passed out to feel. I've always felt that if I get an illness that gets me near the point of incapacitation, I'm going to hold a huge party and, at the end of the night, pull a John Belushi and finish a whole handle of Jack Daniels in one gulp. And of course, make sure that I pass out on my back. Might as well go out with a bang. Either that or melt away into the ether like in Final Fantasies 4 through
