After the shock of relying on fucking Villa of all people for the victory wore off, yes it's a shame we'll be the only PL club in the north east, especially when Middlesbrough promised so much early in the season. That said Sunderland have been walking with foot in hot coals for at least half a decade, so hopefully them going down will revive them, and it means we aren't automatically going to lose six points next season.

I keep hoping that Derby County or Nottingham Forest could get their act together so there could be a proper PL East Midlands derby. There was a point in the season Leicester were promoted that the three East Midlands team occupied the top three places in the league but the other two both fell away. Deathray 2,940 Posted May 12, 2017 When did people stop wearing suits to football matches? Was looking at some old terrace pictures and couldn't help noticing how smart everyone seemed to be dressed. Example

msc 18,476 Posted May 14, 2017 Exeter better away from home, iirc, so a home draw might be great tactics for Carlisle.

I'll admit on quality we didn't deserve that but fuck knows we've started chasing games to the last second of late. We won in the last game of the season at St James' Park, Exeter - nailbiter then. I'll be packed in with my fellow travellers in London watching on a big screen come Thursday.
charon 4,943 Posted May 18, 2017 Been following the current Craig Whyte trial re the pheonixing of what used to be Rangers Football Club. Much of what I posted here in the dearly departed Teddy Bears picnic thread looks bang on, but with Whyte doing the masterstroke of hiring the Arch Hun lawyer Donald Findlay QC <thrown out of Ibrox for the sin of singing The Sash - on camera> it has been Gold, pure comedy Gold. Latest Lol is over the buying the remains for £1. James Doleman @jamesdoleman Betts says he went to Edinburgh for the deal completion on 5 May 2011. "We sat around all day twiddling our thumbs" James Doleman @jamesdoleman On the next day documents were signed AD "Was a pound coin produced at all?" To be fair we'd be slaughtered in League One. Told you we chased games to the very end. Great moment in the pub last night when you lot went 2-0 up and the much larger contingent of Carlisle fans started chanting "3-2, we're gonna win 3-2." Once we equalized the Exeter lot down the other end of the bar were really quiet. 95th minute changed all that, of course. Rooting for you lot on the 28th if only because any success going to Blackpool under their current owners doesn't amuse me.

themaninblack 2,112 Posted May 21, 2017 A win for Liverpool today and it's a place in the Champions League play-off for next season. If any Anfield security steward is passing through this thread I offer the following advice: Watch out for any suspicious, "witch-doctor" looking person, likely to hail from North London and chuck them out! charon 4,943 Posted May 25, 2017 On this the 50th anniversary of the first non Latin Club to win the Big One..... A reminder of lesser lights.T.he huns as you know, I Hate, but their win in the riot of 72 is looking worse now..... Rangers agreed to a replay of their famous European Cup-Winners Cup triumph 45 years ago after a pitch invasion, according to sensational new claims from Dynamo Moscow legend Anatoly Baidachny. The Ibrox side lifted the 1972 trophy and became legends when they beat the Russian dark horses in Barcelona. However, the 3-2 victory was marred by a mass pitch invasion and battles with the Spanish police leading to captain John Greig getting the trophy presented to him inside the Nou Camp. The Russians protested about the pitch invasion to UEFA and demanded a replay of the Final, but the result stood after an enquiry, although Rangers were banned from European competition for two years, later reduced to one year. Colin Stein celebrates after scoring against Moscow Dynamo in Cup Winners Cup But almost 45 years later to the day of the Final, Dynamo legend Baidachny, now 64, has claimed that Rangers accepted responsibility for the trouble, in an interview in a Russian publication. And they even agreed to play a replay of the game in Rome. Baidachny, who later went on to manage Belarus and Dinamo Minsk, said: "We proposed a replay of the game, on October 3, 1972, in Rome. "And the Scots agreed to it because they were going to lose a lot of money with their European ban. "But as usual politics prevailed. UEFA couldn't be seen to let the Russians win. "Everyone remembers what happened after the game, but people forget the Rangers fans invaded the pitch five times. They invaded the pitch for the first time at 1-0. Rangers skipper John Greig (left) with the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972 "Their fans all had mad eyes, it was a scary sight. They tried to set fire to the stadium. They fought with the police and there was casualties. "When they ran onto the park at the end of the match, they tried to rip the shirts of us. I just ran until I got back to the dressing room. "You have to remember back then everything was against the Russians. Our 'supporters' amounted to eight people from the Soviet Trade Company in the entire stadium, which was full of Scots. Our people were not allowed abroad. Rangers parade the European Cup Winner's Cup around Ibrox (Photo: Daily Record) "One of our players, Aleksandr Makhovikov, was absolutely taken out by a Rangers player on the wing. No whistle. From that, Rangers went up and scored. "We went home and no one came to meet us. We were forgotten. If you lost in the old Soviet Union you were regarded as an enemy of the people. "We did get some small financial reward for reaching the Final. It was enough to buy me a Grundig tape recorder."
