Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted January 22, 2006 Here's an interesting double. Zimbabwe's Ian Smith and Ian Smith (ie Harold Bishop) from Neighbours. That many chins can't be good for any man, and blowing the tuba must strain the heart a bit.
Lothar_The_Lurker 1 Posted January 1, 2007 If this forum is anything like the P.W. Botha forum or the Pinochet one, we're going to have one big heated debate. Why not, let's get it over with. Someone post a pro-Rhodesia argument and we'll all argue it to death. I noticed old Bobby Mugabe didn't make the DL '07. We better hope one of these would-be assassins Zimbabwe claims to discover every-other month doesn't get lucky and actually kill the guy.

maryportfuncity 10,629 Posted January 2, 2007 Wiki page, a pretty fair assessment of such a controversial character I'd say, and a good place to start for anyone young enough to wonder who he is. Even links to an audio clip of him in his prime declaring UDI.

Calling Smith a communist is like calling the Pope a Halibut. regards, Hein Surely the "mystery ranter" was alluding to the allegedly pro-Marxist tendencies of ZANU, not the politics of Ian Smith? I suspect, in this context, the term "Democracy" was used in some quasi-ironic fashion to refer to the nature of Ian Smith's government. Still, at least sorting out Rhodesia kept him away from the BBC forums.
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted January 4, 2007 I think, dear guest, that the ranting squid-obsessed loon hasn't the first clue what he or she is on about. Glad to see one of the Iain Smith baiters sticking around though. Welcome.
Black Scythe 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Ian Smith, frail and undemocratic though he may be, would still be an infinitely better Zimbabwean leader than the evil despotic Mugabe. Why is the South African Govt. so silent when so many people are suffering under that monster?
maryportfuncity 10,629 Posted March 17, 2007 Mebbe, after AIDS has riddled the population, Mugabe has driven the survivors to poverty and the inescapable overthrow has killed a stack more, South Africa will - like - just annex the joint.
Black Scythe 0 Posted March 17, 2007 What would the joint then be called? Its too far South to be called North Africa.

Octopus of Odstock 2,184 Posted November 20, 2007 I supposed I should be pleased that a suggestion of mine was a success for the DL..... but for the life of me, I don't know why I dropped him from my 2007 DDP list. I also dropped him off my CPDP list. What's even more galling was he was on both teams the year before. Ah well, it's only a game & a laugh. Not for old Smithy, obviously. Now Mugabe has seen off his sworn rival, might he wilt away? I doubt it.
HSR3 1 Posted November 20, 2007 10 hits this year. Considering how bad the first half of the year was, it's come a long way. Hopefully December will be a good month...
