Article about gerontocracy in Cameroon. President Paul Biya is 88, President of the Senate Marcel Niat Njifenji is 87, Speaker of the National Assembly Cavaye Yegue Djibril is 81 and most notably Senator Victor Mukete is almost 103. He was last seen in Senate mid-March and looks 25 years younger (photo in the article above).

Alim Hayatou, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public in charge of epidemics dead from cardiac arrest. Also a traditional ruler, apparently. President Biya mentioned on twitter that he'll get a state funeral https://www.cameroon-tribune.cm/article.html/39183/fr.html/public-health-secretary-of-state-alim-hayatou

Brahim Deby, son of Chadian President Idriss Deby, has been found dead in France. He had a somewhat colourful life, and his evident appointment as heir apparent was controversial even within his own family.

Idriss Deby now being reported dead within hours of re-election:

Oooh, an African dictator who tried to slip under our radar: apparently former Central African Republic president Andre Kolingba died a few days ago.

I seem to remember we had a separate topic for African dictators, somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Forget my head next.

It is the top 30 in my pool and none of those fuckers will ever die. A MIT group is working on a theorem which proves that.

Henri Konan Bédié, 2nd President of Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) 1993-1999 is 87 today. Will probably go on for multiple years as he seems healthy (and even has a twitter account: https://twitter.com/hkbofficiel) Also ran for President last year.

Seems to have been a shitty ruler. In December 1999 he was ousted by Robert Guéï (1941-2002, later killed along with his wife, children and former interior minister during the first hours of the First Ivorian Civil War by forces lead by 4th President Laurent Gbagbo (b. 1945) and war criminal Charles Blé Goudé (b. 1972) who were both freed by ICC last month: we'll see what happens to them next)

Valentine Strasser (b. 1967), currently the earliest living leader of Sierra Leone 1992-1996 could very well be a goner soon despite his young age. Critically ill in 2019, sent to Ghana for treatment and now lives in poverty in Ghana. Looked skeletal in 2019.

From a 2015 article:

"Six months after self-coronation, he was responsible for the execution of 29 “rebels”. All of these people have been deemed innocent. When the journalist forced him to reflect on these murders, his response was stylistically cynical: “Fuck off, man. In Texas they kill people every day.”

Today, the 48 year old Strasser is a washed up alcoholic living in his mother’s house. He is easily the poorest retired African dictator, earning a pension of $46."

As Drol mentioned before in the commie thread, lots of Ethiopian old politicians are dead.

Out of heads of state prior to 2013, only one is alive: Old Mengistu Haile Mariam (b. 1937)... Four of Mengistu's successors are dead: Tesfaye Gebre Kidan (1935-2004), Meles Zenawi (1955-2012), Negasso Gidada (1943-2019) and Girma Woldes-Giorgis (1924-2018).

And again, out of heads of government prior to 2012 (Zenawi's death), only one is alive: Tamrat Layne (b. 1955), head of the transitional government in 1991. He now lives in Denver. Mengistu's prime ministers are all dead: Fikre Selassie Wogderess died in 2020, Hailu Yimenu in 1993 and Tesfaye Dinka in 2016.

Out of Vice Presidents? The political position only existed during the Derg era and the only person alive to have held this position is Colonel Fisseha Desta (1941-2022). Here is a new video of him. A controversial figure in Ethiopia.

The first Speaker of Parliament 1995-2005, Dawit Yohannes (1956-2019) is also dead.
