It wasn't recognised as a cap at the time, but earlier this year he was awarded a retrospective cap as presumably World or Scottish rugby recognised it as a cap-winning game. Yeah he said the retrospective cap this year made him think he needed to be more active with charity runs despite "not being a spring chicken" or very active for his age.
