pulphack 6 Posted May 6, 2006 well, not sure about the old dear's health now, but she's been losing it for years. back in the early eighties i had a chum whose dad was bit-part actor alan j haines (you're most likely to see him as one of the service officers turning up and waiting for the next one before doing anything at the end of the dad's army movie). anyway, he did quite a lot of theatre tours in the provinces during that time, and he did one play with deborah kerr that kept him in pub stories for some time. she'd forget which town they were in, learned her lines word perfect in rehearsal and yet, when the tour progressed, forgot more and more of them until, by the end of the tour, she was being followed around on stage by a prompt dressed in black, with the playbook in his hand, ready to leap in. the matinee audiences still loved her, but it suggested a sad decline even back then! Definatly famous enough as evidenced by her six oscar nominations), and seemingly in very poor health. Must however question Pulphacks story of her in the early eighties. "never mind, I picked her for my CPDP team though". Alas, I did not. So double - nay treble disappointment (for I enjoyed her films) at today's passing.
