Catherine 1 Posted July 18, 2004 I'm sad to say that the great Mrs. Kerr is not in the best of health. I read that she was too ill to travel to London to receive an OBE, MBE (summat like that) She is "frail but in good spirits".
honez 79 Posted July 19, 2004 Sounds like a potential for 2005 if she can hold on for that long. Then she can be as frail as she likes and join those 'good spirits' on the other side.
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted December 2, 2005 I thought now was a good time to revive the Deborah Kerr thread, A real possibility for '06. She's been suffering with Parkinsons for many years now and is confined to a wheelchair. A definite maybe.
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted December 2, 2005 She's not long turned 84. I love it when we spot young talent to add to the list.
Banshees Scream 110 Posted December 2, 2005 (edited) She's not long turned 84. I love it when we spot young talent to add to the list. Young talent is allways a pleasure to see. This year it seems we have some good scouts out there looking for possible young graduates. Edited October 19, 2007 by Banshees Scream
Canadian Paul 97 Posted December 2, 2005 She's the oldest Bond girl (playing Agent Mimi/Lady Fiona McTarry in Casino Royale) and has Parkinson's, that was about the jist of what my small amount of research turned up. Personally I love it when someone suggests a candidate on a basis of something other than "they're old," so I think some discussion is definetely warranted from people who know more than I... maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted December 3, 2005 She's the oldest Bond girl I think in the interests of political correctness and equal opportunities she should appear in the next Bond movie. I'd pay to see it - something I haven't done in over twenty years.
Guest jheny Posted January 28, 2006 well, i think she is the best actress ever.. im just wondering why she never won from all of her nominations.. love you ms kerr...
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 28, 2006 I'm so glad we had such a length discussion on this candidate. Although really, if Estelle Getty didn't get on, what chance did Deborah Kerr have?
Phantom 2,550 Posted May 5, 2006 (edited) Hi. i'm sorry if here is not the best place for this topic. [spam censored -- MH] PS. sorry for BB-code. i just never used it before and i want to check it. regards.. melinoska We'd only gamble if the odds are in our favour. What odds will you give us for Deborah Kerr dying in 2007? Edited May 6, 2006 by Magere Hein
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted May 5, 2006 Melinoska; the trick with using the DL to advertise is to pander to the intellect, wit and sense of fun amongst the posters. Your links are too blatant. You could at least add some humour, maybe by advertising with the message DON'T CLICK ON THIS f****r WHATEVER YOU DO!
pulphack 6 Posted May 6, 2006 well, not sure about the old dear's health now, but she's been losing it for years. back in the early eighties i had a chum whose dad was bit-part actor alan j haines (you're most likely to see him as one of the service officers turning up and waiting for the next one before doing anything at the end of the dad's army movie). anyway, he did quite a lot of theatre tours in the provinces during that time, and he did one play with deborah kerr that kept him in pub stories for some time. she'd forget which town they were in, learned her lines word perfect in rehearsal and yet, when the tour progressed, forgot more and more of them until, by the end of the tour, she was being followed around on stage by a prompt dressed in black, with the playbook in his hand, ready to leap in. the matinee audiences still loved her, but it suggested a sad decline even back then! maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted May 6, 2006 That sounds a hell of a show, if we had a prompt dressed in black on stage all the time we could put Dickie O back on the boards. Someone ring Brinsworth House and we'll set up a thread to write the script.
Handrejka 1,911 Posted May 6, 2006 Her brother was murdered last year. I did wonder if that might see her off but no

BrunoBrimley 86 Posted May 17, 2006 I enjoyed many Deborah Kerr films. Sad how many times she was nominated but never wone her award for her award worthy performances.
Mr Macabre 0 Posted May 17, 2006 Ms Kerr indeed seems a really strong candidate for next years list. Definatly famous enough as evidenced by her six oscar nominations), and seemingly in very poor health. Must however question Pulphacks story of her in the early eighties. She continued working until the late eighties and my reseach indicates the on set of her Parkinsons occured somewhere around 2000.
pulphack 6 Posted May 17, 2006 i don't know if the parkinsons had anything to do with her lack of memory on stage. i only know that the story was told to me around 1985, and certainly not later (i lost touch with alan haines' son soon after). he put it down to something not parkinsons related at all... allegedly she liked a drop, but i wasn't there. Octopus of Odstock 2,215 Posted October 18, 2007 At first, I was very disappointed to hear this news as she was number 3 in my DDP 2008 team. But I thought.. "never mind, I picked her for my CPDP team though". Alas, I did not. So double - nay treble disappointment (for I enjoyed her films) at today's passing.
