he was the oldest living Olympic fencing medalist. The new titleholder is Italian Irene Camber, born on February 12, 1926. Camber competed in four editions of the Games and won the individual foil tournament in 1952, in addition to coming third with the team in 1960.

Ismael Delgado was born on December 5, 1929 in Aguada, and died on October 9 at the age of 93. He represented his country in the 4x400 meter relay at the 1956 Melbourne Games, where he was eliminated in the first round. He had previously won the silver medal in that event at the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games, and also competed in that tournament in 1950, as well as at the 1955 Pan American Games, and was the oldest living Puerto Rican Olympian. and was succeeded in this capacity by sailor Garry Hoyt, born on 7 April 1931, who represented his country in three consecutive editions of the Games, 1968-1976.

Hungarian Károly Hauzler, who won Bronze medal in the 1980 Water polo team competition died two days ago aged 71.

Russian gymnast Vladimir Markelov , who was silver medalist in 1976 and Olympic Champion in 1980 with USSR in the Team competition, has died aged 66.

Also revealed this week that Portuguese sailor Francisco de Andrade (wiki) died in April 2021, aged 97. He was listed as living up until yesterday so was presumed to be a centenarian. De Andrade was a bronze medallist in the 1952 Games.

He would be Portugal's oldest living athlete, that position goes to Álvaro Sabbo, Equestrian, born on February 2, 1926, competed in the 1956 Melbourne and 1960 Rome Olympics

Fung Ying Ki, Hong Kong Wheelchair Fencer whom won 7 medals across the 2000 and 2004 games has died aged 43 Obit (In Chinese)

Francisco Andrade was also the oldest known Olympic sailing medalist, who now happens to be Pierre Girard, who was already the oldest living Swiss Olympic medalist. Girard represented his country in the 5.5 meter sailing regatta at the 1960 Rome Games, where he won the bronze medal

Monsels was the only Surinamese and thus their last survivor of the 1968 Games.


He was also Suriname’s earliest surviving Olympian, and the first to actually compete in the Olympics. 
Wim Esajas the first Surinamese Olympian, did not compete in 1960 due to a scheduling problem, he died in 2005 ; Suriname did not send athletes in 1964.

John Nuttall was a long distance runner who competed for GB in the 5000m at the 1996 Atlanta games. Commonwealth Games medallist.

Romanian rower Dimitrie Popescu , Olympic Champion at the 1992 Games in coxed four, has died aged 62.

He also won Silver in 1984 and 1988, and Bronze in coxed pair in 1992.
