Youth in Asia 1,082 Posted October 1, 2007 John Nott (Here today, gone tomorrow?) - President of the Board of Trade (b. 1932) It does indeed seem as if Robin Day was wrong on that one
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted October 1, 2007 I know a member of Patrick Jenkin's family, and have met him occasionally although not in the last 5 years or so. Last time I asked (admittedly about a year ago) he was still pretty active doing this and that. If I remember rightly he'd just moved into town so as not to have to travel so much, but that was about it
Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted October 1, 2007 The Hesselhoff has had a dicky ticker for years, and while still active it wouldn't be too shocking if he did suddenly cark it.
Tuber Mirum 125 Posted October 1, 2007 I knew I had this somewhere, scanned out of her biography which I read a while back. Posted it in the Thatcher Thread about 2 years ago. I expect many of them are on there unless they were in disgrace at the time.

Margaret Thatcher - Prime Minister (b. 1925) William Whitelaw - Deputy PM/ Home Secretary (d. 1999) Sir Geoffrey Howe - Chancellor of the Exchequer (b. 1926) John Biffen - Chief Secretary to the Treasury (d. 2007) Lord Soames - Lord President of the Council (d. 1987) Lord Hailsham - Lord Chancellor (d. 2001) Sir Ian Gilmour - Lord Privy Seal (d. 2007) Lord Carrington - Foreign Secretary (b. 1919) Peter Walker - Agriculture, Fisheries & Food (b. 1932) Norman St-John Stevas - Arts/ Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (b. 1929) Francis Pym - Defence (b. 1922) Mark Carlisle - Education & Science (d. 2005) James Prior - Employment (bet he had a jolly time then!) Pym's not well, Carrington's getting on and are probably the best bet. I thought Jenkin died years ago. Not seen Nott for a while. Prior, Edwards & Howe also. Stevas and Hezza are still knocking about on TV. Walker crashed his car recently which suggests he's losing his marbles... Which leaves Thatch and Howe, her Brutus.... JOhn Nott was on tv at the time of the Falklands 25th anniversdary in the sppring and looked in good nick.My bet is on Francis Pym to go soon as hes been 'on leave' from tje HOuse of Lords for a while now which probably means hes suffering from alzheimers or dementia or something.Incidentally 2 other former members of Thatchers cabinet have died this year-Paul Channon and Lord Cockfield, though they werent in h er original cabinet of course. If a car crash is symptomatic for losing ones marbles then the asylums must be stuffed to the gunwales! He's getting on isn't he? I know there are all sorts of reasons for crashing cars (he may have had a tipple, but then we would know about that) so I'm plumping for early Senile Dementia. Either that or he was distracted by a cat or was fumbling for a CD...

Octopus of Odstock 2,180 Posted June 10, 2009 Lord Carrington's wife, Lady Iona Carrington has died. The local paper had quite a large obituary to her... Carrington himself seems to live a VERY quiet life & now the love of his life has died.... well, I wouldn't be surprised if he is not alive come June 2010 as a result. Guest Guest Posted March 5, 2012 Im really sad that Solon from The Brain of Morbius has died. One of my all time fave Dr Who stories. Also sad to report the death of actor Dennis Chinnery, who played the part of the scientist Gharman in Genesis of the Daleks. http://www.doctorwho...-1926-2012.html Sad time all round for Dr Who fans Have you noticed that every member of Maggies cabinet who have died have died younger than she is by several years.Only 2 have lived longer than she has (so far), Lord Carrington and Lord Hailsham. I think the strain of being in her cabinet drove most of them to an early grave...
Guest Guest Posted March 5, 2012 The death of Lord Stevas means that every one of Maggie Thatchers junior ministers when she was education secretary in the Heath Goverbnment has now died http://en.wikipedia....ment_1970-1974. That may be a boring fact to most of you but it does indicate the grim reaper is getting closer and closer to the old girl herself...

msc 18,390 Posted March 26, 2012 No she won't. The young ones, Nott and Walker, will see her out as - probably - will Howe. No she won't. The young ones, Nott and Walker, will see her out as - probably - will Howe. Well, she's already beaten Walker by about 2 years! Nott is one of the people I'm always surprised to remember aren't actually dead already. As for Geoffrey Howe, he looked hideous in a documentary last year - can't remember which one, just remember him looking ghastly. Yep, that's sterling DL work here by me. Octopus of Odstock 2,180 Posted March 26, 2012 John Nott was on ITV News recently talking about the Falkland's War. He looks very well, alert and hearty, and I would imagine he'll make it to 90 at least*** *** = Meaning he'll probably die in a segway related accident tomorrow.
