Rainer Troppa was born in Kolkwitz, East Germany, and began his professional career at BSG Energie Cottbus. He transferred to BFC Dynamo when BSG Energie Cottbus were relegated to the second division DDR-Liga after the 1975–76 DDR-Oberliga season. He played for the East German national team, appearing in the unsuccessful qualifying campaigns for the 1982 and 1986 World Cups and the 1984 European Championship. Troppa died in September 2023, aged 65.

Famous enough in his own right as well as the family link.

 

Ex Celtic, ex Reading (decent player actually), ex Scotland U21 defender, played his uncle in the Damned United.

 

Sorry to hear he's unwell, but it doesn't look good. Reading FC's most recent death (as it were) is currently Neale Cooper who played briefly in the early 1990's. Gray or the MND stricken Jason Bowen would change that to significantly much more recently.

Bjarni Felixson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland and died in Copenhagen, Denmark aged 86 on 14/Sep. He was an Icelandic football player, sports reporter and commentator, he won six caps for the Icelandic national football team between 1962 and 1964. He He played for Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur for several seasons, winning the national championship. five times and the Icelandic Cup seven times.

Played for Scotland when they beat England in 1967. There are several more Scottish players who played who were the reserves from that match left than English.(Where Hurst and Bobby Charlton are all that are left.)

Arthur Longbottom, born in Leeds and died on 17 Sep aged 90, scored 118 goals in 360 league and cup appearances in an 11-year career in the bottom two divisions of the Football League. He changed his surname from Longbottom to Langley after retiring from football. Among the teams he played for are QPR, Port Vale, Millwall, Oxford and Colchester.

Serhiy Bashkyrov was born in Shumerlya, Russia and died on September 19 at the age of 64, he was a coach and football player, in the Soviet League and was champion in 1988 and runner-up in 1987; bronze in 1984 and1985 and in 1989 became the winner of the USSR Cup with the Dnipropetrovsk team
