Leonid Stadnyk (And Other Tall People)

Recommended Posts

Again, it was hard not to have anything but sympathy & affection for Yao, especially as the documentary, well-meaning as it was was rather clumsy, due to poor research, but both would have to be a genuine DL contender, me thinks

I caught the last 15 mins or so of the programme, but I did wonder what the guy'd motive was. He seemed to be constantly kissing and touching these large women as possible....Lord knows what was left on the editing floor.

Anyhoo....as the old saying goes, all women are the same height when they're on their backs. :skull:

Not necessarily, Termie. I now have a fear of heights and trampolines for, erm, a few reasons encountered in my youth. :skull:

Since Leonid refuses to be measured he's no longer officially the world's tallest man - Turkish farmer and lightbulb changer Sultan Kösen is, having overtaken previous incumbent Bao Xishun by several inches at the 2009 World Tall Bloke Championships.

I believe he never agreed to be measured by the Guinness Book of Records and has never been recorded as the tallest man (even though he's taller than all the current crop of candidates). I'm surprised, however, that he never took the opportunity to cash in on his obvious selling point.... ;)

Alexander Alekseyevich Sizonenko, the fourth tallest man in the world (and the tallest person ever to play international basketball) has died at the age of 52. He was officially 7' 10", although IMDB states his height was 8' 1".

Alexander Sizonenko died after a long sickbed on 5 January 2012.

Sultan Kosen at 8 ft 3 the worlds tallent man recently had surgery in the Us to stop him from growing. If succesful he may lead a much longer life then those who die early from acromegaly/gigantism.

In my check-ups on the health of my current picks for next year's DDP, it seems that Yao Defen sadly died on November 13th.

Google translates...

Her two meters tall and 36, had to break the Guinness Book of Records, known as the "world's first female giant. She suffers from gigantism, 20 years, suffering from the pain of torture, a minor fall likely there will be life-threatening. Her name is Yao Defen, the morning of November 13, she has taken the life of 41-year-old home Shucheng comfortable tea town.

Though it seems to have been confirmed here.

Of course, nothing even approaching points-worthy obituary status, but there we are.

Keep your mince pies on the BBC's "Been and Gone" monthly roundup of stiffs. It may turn up there...

 Fingers crossed that Yao get's a proper obit before the year ends as I think it would put me a point or 2 outside the top 20.

I shall hold my nose when entering that into the database, but a legit obit's a legit obit...

While you are here perhaps you would like to sort out the obits for all of those that have passed on the front page.

Better still, endow one of the mods on here with that capability so you can carry on out there discovering yourself without the distraction of the DL.

Thanks.

Britain's (former) tallest man, Chris Greener has died aged 71 (his funeral was today). He held the title for 40 years, at a mere 7' 6".

He had a few movie credits, including The Elephant Man, and also appeared on the first Mrs. Merton Show.

That's a shame, I remember seeing him on Record Breakers and the like, a face from my childhood.

To be fair, it was an ugly face.

I remember him too.

I also remember him at Epsom, for the Derby, being interviewed with Judith Chalmers.

She gave him a hug and her head was as close to his undercarriage as was healthy in the day time.

No wonder her face turned brown.

I remember him too, used to crop up on a lot of 80s TV. He always seemed an amiable chap.

What's 2.69m in real (old fashioned) money?

Edit. Cancel that, I just read the link. FFS 8 feet 10 inches? Wow.
