time 8,599 Posted November 6, 2011 Taunton Rugby Club might have public liability insurance and a firework display to die for (heh heh), but if they're found culpable for the carnage this weekend, I wouldn't want to be their treasurer. I'm sure their treasurer has no personal liability. Please stop reading the Mail.

Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted November 12, 2011 Australia is now dead, too, not because of the Euro crisis but because our gutless imbecile polticians have decided/been pressured to let the Yanks build a new military base here: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-11-11/rudd-silent-on-us-troop-reports/3661710 This is in preparation, according to John Pilger, for the hypothetical future war against China. (China happens to be our biggest coal customer and the buyer propping up the Australian economy; I'll expect they will go shopping for it elsewhere now that we have so blatantly sided against them with the Yank warmongers.) RIP Australia.

I was struggling to resist the urge to post "BREAKING NEWS - DUNN DIES", so I'm glad someone got there first.

Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 4, 2012 Writing's been on the wall for a while but Kodak is officially bankrupt: http://www.abc.net.a...-report/3759196 What a negative article! It's a shame they need to print that. Development in technology is away from chemical photography. Of course, digital cameras are much more easy to use and cheaper as well, yet the story is not as black-and-white as that: the old methods still give superior results. Professionals are fixated to use it. Unfortunately that's not enough for Eastman to enlarge profits enough to survive. Oh well, there are always the pictures. regards, Hein

As you say there will continue to be a specialist demand for film and prints so why couldn't a smaller niche-focused Kodak handle that?

As you say there will continue to be a specialist demand for film and prints so why couldn't a smaller niche-focused Kodak handle that? I suppose it's possible, but I can't think of an example. Of course, doing so is impossible for normal modern businessmen. They start with sacking workers. By the time they realise that management is next, resources to retool production on a lower level are gone, so bankruptcy is the only way out. Of course new companies will soon fill the niche. regards, Hein (once a fanatical user of Kodak Tri-X Pan, must have developed miles of it)

Not the best example but Red Hat went from being a very general Linux company (selling boxed sets to consumers) to being a niche enterprise Linux company, selling subscriptions to corporations.
