Crashing Companies

Playboy (i.e. Playboy, Inc) will no longer be publishing nude photos. What in God's name is their business model? This has 5 years swirling into bankruptcy written all over it.

That didn't take long at all. Playboy Magazine 'for sale' $500M. Next stop, bankruptcy.

BHS might be next. BHS 'could file for administration'

The bastards ripped Mrs Taters off recently. She ordered 8 wine glasses, two were broken on arrival & they didn't refund her when she wasted £3.25 calling their 0300 C/S number.

Thieving toss-pots ! *shakes fist*

Surprised it hadn't been mentioned yet, news from a couple days ago, but holding company Sears is closing 78 stores (10 Sears, 68 KMart stores). KMart was an institution in the Midwest where I grew up and their HQ was in the Detroit suburbs, so it's sad to see the monolith all but disappear. Interestingly the store in New Iberia, LA prolly an extreme rarity in the South is one that remains open (25 miles from me if I so desire)

It's no problem. They were a bit vague on the announcement at the time. And several K-Mart stores had already closed. The one near me closed over a year ago.

I only ever shopped there once which was to get a hat and gloves for my son. It was the only place around town that still had some in stock in mid-March.

Sports Authority over in the U.S. are to close all 450 of their stores

I've only shopped there a couple of times. Once was to find a football shirt for my nephew. They were ridiculously over-priced.

The second time was to find out if they carried any cricket equipment or if they didn't, perhaps they could tell me anywhere that could help, the staff were clueless and weren't even willing to help.

The shop closest to where I live, closed down a few years ago. All the staff were given the option of transferring to another shop just a few miles away. The other one closed down last year.

Phantom this ties in with the recent KMart (Sears) posts. Sports Authority was a KMart creation and spinoff if you will. I recall when they opened, they seemed overpriced but DID have decent deals now and again. But like you, I've not stepped foot in one in at least a decade. Too much competition.

For me it was that the customer service was terrible. The couple of times I did venture in there, there were just a few other customers and plenty of staff standing around talking to each other. If you went up to ask them about anything, you got the feeling you were interrupting their conversation.

I was reading about that a bit earlier.

Im amazed really, amazed that they bothered to start it up.

Im struggling to think of people I work with who actually buy a newspaper, any newspaper.

I used to buy them but really only to have something to line Guinea Pig cages with. In the early 90s you couldn't move for free newspapers being shoved through the door. They all went away so we got a subscription to the local daily. That became weekly so I stopped it and briefly had a subscription to the i. Now have to rely on my in-laws both in their seventies for papers.

Aeropostale to close 113 stores in the United States, in addition to its 41 stories in Canada, as it seeks to "achieve long-term financial stability."

I know its a bit old fashioned to buy one nowdays and it will, one day, die off in the way that Unigate did but, irrespective of what newspaper you actually buy, its somesort of tangible evidence that you want to actually know what the fuck is going on in the World/UK on a daily basis.

Set aside the snobbery, even the Tabloids are better than no newspaper at all.

I think we can now add Donald Trump's chances at the White House to this thread. I mean, come on!! Britain is leaving the EU, you got the whole press following you to your luxurious golf course in Scotland, you are standing in front of a microphone and all you can talk about is a lighthouse and some suites you added to it?

The political world is on fire and all you do is talk about a business venture??!! Just look at it, seriously!

I think it took CNN way too long to realize Donald was only talking about, and maybe to, himself. This man is a disaster to the world and the Republican Party in particular. And I don't pity them. They really did it to themselves. They choose to pit 16 candidates against him and one by one they turned out to be lightweights against him. The presidential run is won by the Democrats, five months in advance. Clinton will make minced meat of him. This blowhard took much to much hay on his fork. And everyone realizes it now, but himself.

Donald Trump can indeed be called a crashing company. The pilots in the plane went AWOL. So fitting that Dr. Zolders with his avatar is above this post.

Sears in particular became very poor in customer service, particularly in any phone interaction and in service. They have made a decent attempt to improve over the last year or so but if customers have a bad experience they often won't go back.

Are any major firms or financial institutions talking seriously about leaving London or is it all just bluster at this stage?

HSBC may move their offices to Paris, which means the loss of a possible 1,000 jobs.

Funny, there are those in Paris posting 'HSBC moving offices to Paris, bringing with them 1000 jobs!

How is that a crashing company?

We're talking about the implications of companies shifting their offices from the UK
