Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) So since I can never keep track of who's been mentioned and who's not, and since I've nothing better to do at the moment, I've decided to start early and create a thread similar to the one OoO provided for us in 2006. For ease of editing, I'll be putting all the names under one post and including any reasonable suggestions made in the I&P for 2008 thread. I'll also try and mention ages for those 87 and over. I would hope that this is more of a quick reference for people, so do post in this thread occasionally to keep it near the top, but suggestions should still be posted, debated and updated in the sticky thread. Certainly not doing as well as he was. Phantom 2,531 Posted January 9, 2007 Thanks CP. Much appreciated, especially for the obscurer Americans I will doubtless forget about come November/December. I can easily shorten the list by pencilling them in for next year on my list and just sit back and watch them drop like flies
Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 11, 2007 OK, I think I've compiled all the reasonable choices from the past list plus anyone who's been mention in the I&P Thread, People I Was Surprised etc. etc. Hopefully, if we hear news about any of these candidates that don't have their own thread, then we can post that news here and, if the mods deem it worthy of a new thread (like Robert Anton Wilson), then the posts can be moved. Hopefully this will avoid the starting of threads along the vein of "Tom Poston has cancer." "Ooooh, he looks like a good bet." "He just died" etc. with nothing much to offer. I'll be watching the threads and adding anyone worth adding to this list. If you happen to notice that someone is no longer a good candidate (ie. Tom Poston has been cured of cancer and is now eating locomotives for breakfast), let me know too. It's a tough balance to keep the list manageable, while also including the largest range of good candidates. Thanks CP. Much appreciated, especially for the obscurer Americans I will doubtless forget about come November/December. I think it'll be useful for the WDP come March/April, since we can pick anyone with a wikipedia page.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted February 1, 2007 Levi Stubbs - Original, and long serving, lead singer of the Four Tops. Has had cancer for almost 12 years now and was recently seen being wheeled on stage and looking terrible in a PBS documentary. Nowhere else to put this, so I suppose I'll put this here. Stubbs wheeled out once more. Not even sure what this means to be honest. Also, I've updated the list a bit.
Canadian Paul 97 Posted February 28, 2007 Pushing this up to the top to note that Kitty Carlisle Hart, of whom news has been scarce since she was forced to pull out of the New Years' show, seems to be doing better, as per the last paragraph of that article. This article, however, claims that she's "ailing," but that word gets thrown around a lot for non-fatal illnesses (think Prime Minister of Iraq). I've removed the dead people, along with some who seemed to have recovered, and I'll update the list with new suggestions soon.

Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted March 13, 2007 Gabriel Garcia Marquez to become peace mediator. Hmm. Seems to have plenty of kick about him yet.
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted March 13, 2007 The President of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, is in good health... said his secretary, Rupeni Nacewa yesterday. "I should know because I work with him everyday... His excellency is 200 per cent better than you and I put together,"
Canadian Paul 97 Posted March 13, 2007 Rostropovich has been discharged from hospital and is said to be feeling fine. I've cut him, along with Marquez and Iloilo, and I've added in the recent suggestions that I've been slacking off on. Also Bill Walsh is still ill, but still golfing. O'Hara is an outside bet at the moment. She's still quite feisty & active, despite recent illness. As for Delannoy, no, not really. I'm quite happy with who I DO have, right now, thanks for asking. DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted May 16, 2007 Doug Fieger - lead singer of The Knack. Has just had brain surgery for two tumors. News of his illness was covered extensively in the UK A new article about Doug Fieger's health. He continues to preform, despite radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but tests have also revealed cancerous cells in the lymph tissue. Surgeons continue to zap his brain tumours, but they're not going away. Also, Andrew Hill needs to be removed from the list, on account of his deadness. Canadian Paul 97 Posted May 16, 2007 Also, Andrew Hill needs to be removed from the list, on account of his deadness. Bugger, I thought I'd removed him already. I'm sure there's a joke about being harder to remove than one of Fieger's brain tumours, but I'll keep this thread in good taste. Hill gone now, Fieger looks like he might be worth watching.
