eejit 9 Posted January 1, 2009 Here is my team: Henry Allingham Patriarch Pavle Alfonso Antoniozzi Wendy Richard Susan Atkins Bobby Robson James Bevel Bill Stone Fidel Castro Nyanasamvara Suvaddhana Maria de Jesus Patrick Swayze Joanne Evans * joker Tomoji Tanabe Ted Kennedy John Tate Dai Llewellyn Nicholas Winton Robert Novak Norman Wisdom I feel confident in only 12 of them and the rest are just old. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 1, 2009 Carkers Convention 2009 King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand Abdelbaset al-Megrahi Susan Atkins Patricia C Dunn Trudi Endersby Betty Ford Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne Billy Graham Genaro Hernandez Sir Dai Llewellyn - Joker Noel Martin Patriach Pavle Gerry Rafferty Wendy Richard Sir Bobby Robson Bill Stone Patrick Swayze Shih Ming Teh Zdravko ‘Chemical’ Tolimir Norman Wisdom They all appear to have made the start line so Rabbi Philip Berg can keep his wheelchair parked by the subs bench and watch the action. I'm hoping for a few more carkers at the convention than I enjoyed last year. Speaking of the subs bench, I note the presence of one conspiciously dead person on Eejit's team. I'm assuming those nice people running the DDP will carefully remove the remains of Mr Bevel and bring on the sub.
eejit 9 Posted January 1, 2009 Doh, thanks MPFC, I didn't notice him slip away there on the 19th. My sub was Thatcher - though I don't really have any confidence in her paying up this year.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 1, 2009 Bevel's qualifying obit didn't appear and I was another one who had him down on my DDP list, so it's probably a let off for you Eejit. Re Thatcher, I share your concerns cos she's always had a stubborn streak. Doubt there'll be much of a problem gathering the kind of news coverage that'll count for points though. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted January 1, 2009 Just an idea, like. Once we've finished our show and tell this thread could be redundant but what about if we kept it going a little longer with a competition? Death Race 2009. Really simple, every time one of our picks dies we score points equivalent to the number of full days left in the year. So - for example - if Susan Atkins dies today, everyone picking her gets 364 points. The winner is the first person to 2009 points, in the event of one death tipping more than one winner over the magic number the winner is the one who clears 2009 points by the biggest margin. Oh aye, and any death counts, so even if your picks don't score on the DDP, they score here. I think we'll have a winner in six to eight weeks. Whaddya reckon? BCAlum2000 42 Posted January 1, 2009 A fairly conservative (but international) list for The Newstreet Boys Death Squad. Hoping to improve on a mediocre 2008! By my standards, I thought 2008 was a pretty bad year for celebrity deaths. Probably the worst since 2003 and though not quite up there with 1997 (the year when Princess Diana, Chris Farley, Notorious BIG, Gianni Versace, and John Denver died), it was still pretty bad. In 2008, we have lost true cinema legends (Paul Newman, Charlton Heston), talented and remarkable filmmakers (Sydney Pollack, Anthony Minghella), actors on the brink of true superstardom (Heath Ledger, Bernie Mac), TV stars (Estelle Getty, Suzanne Pleshette, Harvey Korman, Dick Martin), literary masters (Michael Crichton), pioneers of comedy (George Carlin), music (Isaac Hayes, Bo Diddley), and special effects (Stan Winston), influential newsmakers (Tim Russert, Tony Snow and for the Brits, Carol Barnes), stars from Hollywood's Golden Age (Van Johnson, Richard Widmark), and even cult cinema icons (Vampira, John Phillip Law, Beverly Garland). I think 2009 will be rather light in terms of celebrity deaths. I don't know why. Anyway, to stop rumbling, here's me list for 2009 (of course it will be revised): Fidel Castro Kim Jong-il Robert Mugabe Tony Curtis Dominic Dunne Robert Novak Margaret Thatcher Billy Graham BB King Amy Winehouse Annette Funicello Gloria Stuart John Wooden Zsa Zsa Gabor Ariel Sharon Elizabeth Taylor Kirk Douglas Patrick Swayze Ted Kennedy Farrah Fawcett (Joker/Wildcard)
