There are some very famous anniversaries today, but in keeping with the 5 year interval rule I've had to hand it to Gottfried Finger, Czech composer, who died 285 years ago today aged 70 (ish).

There is no "5 year interval rule".

Exactly. The only rule is: died on this date. I use as an additional rule that the subject hasn't been posted about in this topic before. I also add a portrait.

Easy to say, but do we have to check that someone hasn't posted that Princess Di'd today every year.

That I do doesn't imply everybody should.

Not forgotten, just stopped giving a shit. Well, I never gave a shit in the first place but you know what I mean.

Not sure if it's fitting or not that Mary Ann Nichols, the first known victim of Jack the Ripper died on this date too or not. I'm not posting that picture of her, so here's a doll version.

I mean, I don't really give a crap about Daaah-yaahh-nuuhhhrr either, but I know so many people just love her.

:scratchhead:

I don't know anyone who pronounces Diana like that.

Me neither. Hereabouts that name is pronounced 'deeaanaa' ('aa' representing the vowel in 'aargh') with stress on the second syllable. Her shine has waned a bit here.

The two posts above yours. But I was being subtle to make a point. I'll be blunter in future.

For all you runners (and I suspect there are many who use this site), inspiration for the Marathon and hero of Athens, Pheidippides, took off his Nikes for the last time 2,505 years ago.

And, not breaking the rules because there aren't any and even if there were it wouldn't matter... J R R Tolkein went down the Hobbit hole for the last time on this day 42 years ago, aged 81.

Seems like the preferred order to me. Such waiting can't be hard.

The awesome Joan Rivers died about 20 years too early on September 4, 2014, after spending a week in a coma following a botched operation. She was 81.
