Favourite quote - I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

I remember BBC World showing his funeral with the title "Best funeral". I, for one, thought it was a bit overrated.

5 years ago, aged 84, Lelsie Nielsen.

Among the many quotes:

Dr Rumack: You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.

Elaine Dickinson: A hospital? What is it?

Dr Rumack: It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

I meant to post Peter Hujar from 2 days ago but forgot and I'm not waiting another year. He's probably best remembered for photo of Candy Darling on her death bed.

Lord Chancellor to King Henry VIII, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey died on this day in 1530 aged 57.

He's buried a couple of miles up the road from me although his grave is symbolic as the exact position within Abbey Park is unknown.

I know there's a time difference between the U.K. and the U.S. but I didn't realise it is 30 years.

One for the dead popes society, Pius VIII (Francesco Saverio Castiglioni) died this day 185 years ago aged 69. His papacy lasted just over a year. Because his post mortem revealed no clue as to the cause of death (age possibly?), it was assumed he had been poisoned. Cue Dan Brown.
