Well spotted. Not the first time I've done that.

Widely known to be seriously ill, yet only on 2 DDP teams and no Deathlist when he died. Imagine that for a Hollywood A-lister these days!

One of those "dropped from the Deathlist the year they bloody die" names from the past. Not just a modern bit of sods law!

I'm led to believe this is what hair looked like in the 1980's.

Sylvia Plath ended her depression 55 years ago, at a mere 30 years old.
Here is a lengthy and interesting article about the search for Plath obituaries.

It begins:

"This week, I went on a hunt for some obituaries of Sylvia Plath. To my surprise, I couldn't find any.

At the time of her death by suicide—50 years ago, on February 11, 1963—she was a published novelist and an acclaimed poet; beyond that, she was also a statuesque, stylish American married to the celebrated English poet Ted Hughes. Surely there had to be some written public remembrance, on one side of the Atlantic or the other, of an author who'd done readings of her work at Harvard and for the BBC. But, no: I couldn't unearth a single piece of news about the death of Sylvia Plath."

Actually fairly common for writers pre-internet unless they were huge names.

To the point I became ridiculously excited when I stumbled across this looking for something else in the Herald archives:

benson obit.png

PS Not mentioned in this obit - one of the best ghost story writers of his generation. Hence the excitement. Also, he'll only be a reference to someone else in this thread because he was that rare event, a notable death in the 29th February!
