Brian O'Neill was born and died in Montreal at age 94, he was a sports executive who worked for the National Hockey League (NHL), rising to the position of Executive Vice President. O'Neill oversaw the NHL expansion draft in 1967 and later handled the NHL entry draft until he took the role of vice president

Stanislav Neveselý was born in Břilice and died at the age of 87 on July 24, was a Czech ice hockey player and coach.
In 2008 he was inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame, In the years 1959 to 1964 he played for Sparta Prague and later for Dukla Jihlava, where he ended his active career in 1967

Joe Kowal was born in Toronto and died at age 67, the hockey player played 22 games in the National Hockey League with the Buffalo Sabers between 1976 and 1978. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1976 to 1981, was spent in the minor American Hockey League. He was drafted in the second round, 33rd overall, by the Sabers in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft.

Wayne Maxner, who played 62 games for the Boston Bruins over the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons, later becoming a coach in Canadian Major Junior for the Windsor Spitfires before coaching the NHL's Detroit Red Wings during the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons, has died. He was 80.

Bob Murdoch, a two-time Stanley Cup winner who played 757 games combined with the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings and Atlanta/Calgary Flames, has died. He was 76. After his playing career, Murdoch became an assistant coach with the Flames for several years before taking on head coaching duties with the Chicago Black Hawks (now Blackhawks), and Winnipeg Jets. He was later an associate coach with the expansion San Jose Sharks. Murdoch was a one-time winner of the Jack Adams trophy as the league's best coach.

Gilles Gilbert, a goaltender who played over a decade in the NHL combined with the Minnesota North Stars, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings in the 1970s and early 1980s, has died. He was 74. Gilbert was most notably teamed with Hall of Famer Gerry Cheevers during their time with the Bruins.

That's sad... Just two weeks ago he was "making progress" in his cancer recovery:

Brad Maxwell, who played 612 games in the NHL between 1977-78 and 1986-87, the bulk with the Minnesota North Stars, has died. He was 66. Maxwell, a defenseman, was known for his offense and his physicality, amassed 368 points and 1292 penalty minutes during his NHL tenure.

Morgan Samuelsson, born in Boden, County Norrbotten, was a Swedish ice hockey player and coach. He died aged 55 on 3/sep. In 1986, he was drafted 123rd overall in the NHL, by the Quebec Nordiques. In the SHL (then Elitserien ) he played between 1987 and 1996 for Luleå HF, Södertälje SK and AIK . At AIK, he scored 169 points in 168 games

Henry Boucha, who had a stellar couple of years on the U.S.National and Olympic teams, but an NHL career cut short by an eye injury, has died. He was 72. In the National Hockey league, he played a combined 247 games with Detroit, Minnesota and Kansas City/Colorado. He also played a year in the WHA with the league's Minnesota franchise. Boucha, himself, was from that state.

Nic Kerdiles, the second-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2012 who made his NHL debut during the 2016-2017 season, died at 29 years in a motorcycle accident:
