So, a real character, no significance as a racing driver but...likely obitable by way of a fleeting mention as and when. alt obits guy 3,386 Posted October 26, 2018 On 20/08/2018 at 08:56, Sir Creep said: Canadian rookie Robert Wickens was in hospital with "orthopaedic injuries" after a frightening airborne crash in the early stages of the IndyCar Pocono race won by ex-Formula One racer Alexander Rossi. Wickens, of Guelph, Ontario, was rushed to hospital by air ambulance on Sunday after he collided with Ryan Hunter-Reay's IndyCar at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. The collision came as they exited turn two and caused Hunter-Reay's car to careen into the wall, and Wickens' car was pulled along with it. Video here. Sir Creep 7,081 Posted November 3, 2018 Mari Hulman George, former chair of the board of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, died early Saturday. She was 83. Hulman George was IMS chairman from 1988 through 2016. Her father, Anton "Tony" Hulman Jr., purchased the speedway in 1945 and saved it from demolition after World War II, and racing and the facility became a staple of the Hulman family. She also fielded an entry in the Indianapolis 500 in 1962 and 1963, with husband Elmer George as the driver. He finished a career-best 17th in 1962 and received relief help from Paul Russo and A.J. Foyt during that race. SC

Aye, a very dangerous time in racing. The practice of sending track marshalls running across the track became less of a thing after the 1977 South African GP. I would rather not link the video...
