Ra Ra Rasputin 99 Posted April 24, 2009 I doubt many of these people would get a UK obit to be honest.

Vinegar Tits 606 Posted April 24, 2009 Dick Bruna will definitely get an obit. Not sure Teddy Scholten will, unless as an excuse to moan at how Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson were robbed in 1959. Corry Brokken (b. 1932) is more likely to get an obit in the UK as she was the host of the 1976 Contest when Brotherhood Of Man won, but even then I doubt she will. I.R.Baboon 221 Posted April 25, 2009 I saw an interview with Jos Wijnant last week, he sure is in quite good health and very bright. Well, for someone at the age of 107, that is. I'd like to add the King of the Levenslied (a song about all the tragidy in life with classic titles as 'a tear falls in my bear' as well as more 'filthy' lyrics) Johnny Hoes, who is 92 and still performing (UK obit: not very likely) and of course Geert Wilders, who would love to get shot and get even more attention. Canadian Paul 97 Posted April 26, 2009 Well if you're willing to take a chance, the illustriously named Gratia Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (born July 10, 1912) is The Netherlands' oldest living Olympian. Despite finishing 14th, she has some claims to fame that might help her garner an obituary including holding highest ranking in Olympic skiing reached by a Dutch national, being the daughter of the president of the Dutch National Olympic Committee during the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam and being a Baroness of some type. Similarily, bronze-medal winning field hockey player René Sparenberg (born December 3, 1918) is alive and living in Florida; don't know if it helps or hurts his obit chances, but it's probably fairly unlikely either way. Also, bronze medalist in field hockey Hans Schnitger (born August 5, 1915) is supposedly still alive, but I doubt he'd get an obit even if he were. Same story with Tin Dekkers (born September 18, 1916), but he didn't even win a medal, so an obit is extremely unlikely.

Impressive that Holland would have anyone finish as high as 14th in skiing, given the tallest mountain in the whole country is apparently Vaalser hill at a modest 1053 ft. It would be like an Egyptian finishing in the top 15 in speed skating. Which gets me to thinking, what's the most geographically unlikely medal winning performance in Olympic history? Canadian Paul 97 Posted April 27, 2009 what's the most geographically unlikely medal winning performance in Olympic history? One that struck me as surprising was Annelise Coberger - she won a Silver medal in Alpine Skiing at the 1992 Winter Olympics and, being from New Zealand, was the Southern Hemisphere's first Olympic medal-winner at the Winter Olympics. Also, North Korea has won two speed skating medals, which I find odd, but I guess I don't really know much of what goes on in that country...
Canadian Paul 97 Posted April 29, 2009 Herbertus Bikker (1915 -) - Dutch war criminal known as "de beul van Ommen" I hate to do two posts in row, but Bikker's been dead and buried since November 08, he just didn't bother to tell us. Selfish jerk.
Monoclinic 39 Posted April 30, 2009 Maniac on clog popping spree, however he missed the obit worthy Royal family who were in Apeldoorn celebrating Queen's day. I know it is in French but the BBC site didn't have a gruesome video to accompany it. Here is a tamer BBC version of events. Less body sliding in view.
