Surprised nobody has mentioned Herbert Blomstedt (95) before here, the oldest (professional) conductor still performing.

That title actually belongs to Cao Peng (1925).

The great Leif Segerstam says he has been wheelchairbound since a bad bout of covid last year:

Segerstam says that music is his nourishment.

Otherwise, not much happens during the day, everyday life mostly consists of watching TV. In the interview, Segerstam was asked what he does.

- I breathe and sleep and eat and piss and shit. And if I take SPAM, then something else, Segerstam tells HS.

Edit: Spam meaning the sexual dysfunction medicine. He was one of the three Finnish maestros I mentioned almost three years ago - the others, Kaj Chydenius and Jorma Panula are still alive too. Panula is still working at 93, Chydenius has unfortunately been very quiet in recent years and if he died tomorrow it would not suprise me at all.

Leif Segerstam dead at 80. "After a short illness".

He composed a high number of symphonies - over 370 at the last count - of which only around a dozen have been recorded so far.

Avro Part's 2024 includes receiving another major honour - Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society. He showed up in September - a few days after turning 89 - to receive it. The man is as quiet and devout as his music, but he's also obitable as fuck!

American composer George Wilkins has died aged 90. Surprised the guy was not a recognised Disney Legend - if you have ever been to Disney World, particularly Epcot, his work is everywhere.
