Harvester Of Souls 40 Posted October 13, 2005 Is it to coincide with his new book? Ghost written was it. Either that or conspiracy is afoot.
Guest iain Posted October 13, 2005 i think its designed to take focus away from Maggie Thatchers 80th birthday celebrations.Peel was no fan of old Maggie

harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,689 Posted February 12, 2008 Peel's tombstone blues Surely they could have found space to add "was guilty of responsible for the only airing of 'arry's band on national radio"?!
maryportfuncity 10,655 Posted October 20, 2008 Railway engine named in his honour. Cue a flurry of newspaper headlines punning on the word 'tracks' and Peel die-hards speculating on whether it'll go at the right speed.

I think it is no coincidence that British Alternative Rock has declined since he died... Well it took 3 people to replace him on his show. Without him, there are so many bands that wouldn't have got airplay I remember seeing a magazine in my dentist's waiting room that had an interview with a local DJ. He stated that it was because of John Peel that he wanted to get into the radio business. I wish I could remember the DJs name as I was surprised that being 4000 miles away from home that someone would pay homage to him

But in those days he was John Ravenscroft. I grew up in London and listening to his show on BBC Radio one was a weekly ritual for me. I only moved to the States about 5 years ago. Yes it's true he lived and worked in Texas for a few years which is where he met his first wife. He did state in his autobiography that in some clips of the Lee Harvey Oswald assassination that he can be seen in the background. I've tried to view this footage but not been able to pick him out anywhere
harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy 1,689 Posted October 6, 2012 Will he be dragged into Jimmygate and outed as a paelophile? Am I allowed to post such heretic tittle-tattle from the vile Express? Ah well, in for a penny, gossip and be damned ... I hope they get Bat*s, Tra*is, Edmon*s, Blac*burn et al. Radio 1 = Radio 14, it seems. And who groped Liz Kershaw? Her brother? David Blunkett? I suppose they could get every 60s/70s rocker too.
Spade_Cooley 9,538 Posted October 6, 2012 Will he be dragged into Jimmygate and outed as a paelophile? Am I allowed to post such heretic tittle-tattle from the vile Express? I thought he was already acknowledged as a paedo, but in the fun Jerry Lee Lewis sense of the term rather than the nasty Kevin Keeg*n sense of the term. Anyway, his tastes eventually matured. Guest Guest Posted October 6, 2012 Having one relationship with a 15 year old girl, who claimed to be much older, when he was in his 20s, hardly equates to Jimmy Saviles predatory and vile behaviour. Get things into perspective!

maryportfuncity 10,655 Posted October 6, 2012 No way is Peel the alleged Paedo, apart from anything else the maths suggest his show and hers were so far apart he wouldn't have been around. Peel was outspoken at the time about the locker room mentality of some of his more moronic colleagues and often cited a Radio One Funday at Mallory Park as the nadir of the whole thing. The sight of Tony Blackburn being ferried across the lake by a Womble driving a speedboat being a particularly surreal moment. I'd say DLT (loved being surrounded by girls, grabbed them as hard as Savile, not particularly interested in music) is a short-odds candidate. Incidentally. I've a hunch there's a cracking A-Z Peel tribute show on a very obscure station between 10 and midnight tomorrow, link: http://www.miskinradio.co.uk Same show is threatening planning to play Harry McNally's greatest hits soon, there will be advance warning hereabouts when that happens. Lard Bazaar 3,800 Posted October 7, 2012 I think the Peel thing has got way out of hand - they've picked up on his first marriage and some comments he made fucking ages ago about how young girls would come to his dressing room offering all sorts of shenanigans and about how people didn't say no to it - additionally, the Daily Fucking Mail illustrated their story about him with a picture of him dressed up as a schoolgirl - and Bob's shagging your Aunty, he's some sort of predatory paedo. A vast difference between what Peel described, and what has allegedly happened to Savile's 'victims', in my opinion.
