American cross-country skier and biathlete Larry Damon has died aged 90, has announced Oldest Olympians on its facebook.

He participated at four different games : 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968.

Japan's first Winter Olympic Gold medallist, Yukio Kasaya has died aged 80. he won a ski-jumping gold in Sapporo, 1972.

And a week later Netherlands's first Winter Olympic champion, Sjoukje Dijkstra, is now dead too, she was 82. She won gold in figure skating in 1964. Unique pick in the DDP.

 

She died not even 3 months after the death of her close friend and fellow Dutch figure (and ice) skating icon Joan Haanappel.

I see Nick Phipps, Team GB bobsledder who competed in the 4 man event at the 1980 Games and the 2 and 4 man events at the 1992 Games has died: https://www.thebbsa.co.uk/news-and-results/2020/world-cup-winner-phipps-dies-age-72/

 

He did not compete in 1988, but was Team GB's flagbearer at those Games' Opening Ceremony.

Aleksander Reichenberg, born in Mora, Sweden, died aged 31, was a Swedish-Norwegian professional ice hockey player who played as a forward. At international level, he represented the Norwegian national team and played in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Sophie Hediger, a member of Switzerland's snowboard cross team at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, has died following an avalanche at a mountain resort, the country's skiing federation said on Tuesday.

 

The incident occurred on Monday at the Arosa resort in Switzerland.

 

Hediger, 26, competed at the Beijing Games in the women’s snowboard cross and the mixed team version of the same event.
