He was the first South-East Asian to undergo a heart transplant, in 1985, and was also one of the longest living survivors of a heart transplant. He worked for Reuters 1960-1970, providing coverage of the Vietnam war. Yes, my sole unique pick. Given his early interest in a now very relevant public figure, I'd be shocked if a QO doesn't appear.

Over the phone, Hewlett’s voice is croaky, but his mind is as sharp as ever.

“My situation is acute,” he says. “I can go at any moment. But it doesn’t feel like it to me. This morning, I felt a bit queasy, and I have a few aches and pains, but otherwise I don’t feel compromised. My brain doesn’t feel like it doesn’t work.”

Hm. He'll die this year, but I can see him lasting a few more months tbh. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he dies tomorrow.

It is more that his liver could go into spasm at any moment and kill him.As this is a complication of the cancer it is likely that will get him first.

Just listening to Steve Hewlett`s latest Eddie Mair interview.Still in the Royal Marsden but is looking to go to a hospice but it is difficult to know what type of care he would need as his prognosis is so uncertain.Lucid to a point but trails off.Voice is increasingly crackly and almost slurred at times.
