arghton 7,105 Posted December 31, 2024 To be honest, I made that list today mostly out of names I've had sitting around, Matti & Teppo I'd forgot about. Kuusela looked unrecognizable and frail in the most recent image I've seen of her (from years ago) and is a pretty big name. There's been some implication of her being ill including how when media attempted to interview her this year the assistant who answered her phone said "she was in very good health until 80". I don't think she's been seen or heard of since 2022 atleast. Pohjola was most recently interviewed last month. I recall she's got diabetes but she and Eero Aarnio (Ball Chair designer) are some of the healthiest-looking Finnish nonagenarians I've seen.

Seela Sella - Classic actress, b. 1936 On 20/04/2024 at 20:55, arghton said: Seela Sella, Finnish actress ill with unstable blood pressure and a-fib, but doesn't sound like she's seriously ill. However she has suffered from blood cancer since 2007 or earlier and Meniere's disease since 1974. Seela Sella interviewed, "recovering well from a stroke she suffered late last year". Still working though, I don't think she'll go this year. EDIT: Anyways, looking at and analyzing my Finnish list I think Ristomatti Ratia of Marimekko will end up being my big loss there. He's suffered from dementia since atleast 2016 (although he felt like it already to me when he participated in our version of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2012) but has been ill for so long I'd forgotten about him. Armi Kuusela - frail, lost son a few years ago, although she's been quite a recluse she hasn't been in condition to even shortly comment about her life for years now. 45% Taisto Tähkämaa - Decrepit and seemingly was in a care home earlier. Reappears in November in decent health and not wheelchairbound. 50% Tellervo Koivisto broke her hip back in 2020 and has looked increasingly frail and decrepit for years. She didn't attend the annual independence day reception this year and it wasn't the first time. I am honestly suprised she's made it this far. 45% Ilkka Kuusisto suffers from dementia and looked physically ultra-frail in 2023. 60% Taina Elg hasn't been interviewed since the 2010s. Came back from the US to Finland some years ago. No idea, 30% Frederik has suffered from heart problems, lung problems and whatever for years probably partially due to cocaine use etc. First heart attack over 9 years ago. Fucking overdue to me, but still doesn't seem near the end. 20% Olga Temonen has brain cancer and has been treated in Germany with some form of alternative treatments that allegedly have made the tumor shrink. Very positive about her health but I don't believe it. On the other hand, her cancer is said to not be GBM but some similar slower one. 45% Paavo Lipponen has had around 7 heart surgeries, wife called him "living on borrowed time" already back in 2018. However I recall he didn't attend the independence day reception last month, which he did last year. 55% Pentti Matikainen...PCNSL lymphoma, usually has a very poor prognosis. What I didn't notice is that he said he's now in remission. Relapse chances are high but this was a shite pick. 5% Jaakko Iloniemi - relatively bad pick, still sharp and seems in decent health. 10% Arto Salomaa - Just very very frail back in December. 40% Lenita Airisto - Enormous stroke in 2023, around a year in hospital and rehab. Very similar to Chomsky, but might not be in 24/7 care. Articles make it sound she's unable to talk or walk though. 80% Seela Sella - Blood cancer since 2009 controlled with meds and some other ailments. Stroke as mentioned there. 88 years old but recovers from fucking everything. 35% Astrid Swan - Breast cancer, terminal since 2014, already spread to the brain in 2017. Long lost Nolan cousin, 20% Eila Roine - 93, multiple strokes, heart attacks, falls, sounds like she's suffering from quite advanced dementia now. 55%. Jouko Loikkanen - Can't find anything on him since 2014. 30%. Pekka Vennamo - Morbidly obese octogenarian, on and off critical conditions/ICU with covid for EIGHT months some years ago. Overdue 40% Risto Pelkonen - Decrepit but honestly, he has been for a decade. 20%. Izumi Tateno - Enormous stroke in 2002 but seems to be doing amazing, actually. 10%. Andy McCoy - Former heroin addict, brain completely fried for decades and more of a mess than Ozzy, in 2005 he seemed like he'd die from an OD in weeks. Some kind of a role model for his good friend Bam Margera. 15% Raimo Ilaskivi - Decrepit, has suffered from cancers and other health problems, turning 97. Still active on Facebook and his wife's caregiver...25% Kisu Jernström - congenital pancreatic anomaly, liver problems, laryngeal cancer (in remission), sepsis and peptic ulcer last year and suffers from an agressive submucosal stomach cancer. That cancer was supposed to be everywhere but he has claimed he's "recovered" following an enormous surgery that was the first of its kind here. Previously he might've been exaggerating, currently I think he's downplaying it. 40% Bjarne Kallis - Massive fall, brain bleed and skull fracture from 3 places in 2015. Lived but has gone quiet as of late. 35% Danny - Yesteryear icon with diabetes for 30 years, heart attacks, surgeries. 82 but still very active to the extent he feels much younger and healthier. 10% Jorma Panula - fat 94-year-old controversial maestro who has outlived his younger colleagues. Still active and feels eternal. 20% Peter Nygård - "deteriorating health" stuff is likely bullshit, but I can't resist a potential hit to celebrate. 10% Kai Lind - When his wife died in 2020 he fell into deep depression and lost his appetite, losing 10 kilos in a year or two. Then he had a major fall. 87 and hasn't been heard of in a while now. Unfortunately 60%. Eeva Kilpi - Turning 97. Lifetime award some time ago (she couldn't receive it in person) and lots of places have been honouring her in the last months. Unable to give comments now. 70% Remu Aaltonen - 77, has used every drug on earth. Calmed down a bit after he crashed his car while high on meth at 65. Heart problems, atleast 4 pulmonary embolisms, broken bones etc etc. 40% Birgitta Öunap - Some rare form of demyelinating disease that causes her to get brain tumors, she has five of those. It's been relatively stable since 2017 when it was diagnosed according to her, but god knows...30% Ilmari Koppinen - Healthiest 107-year-old you'll ever see. 55% Pentti Salmi - An icon, heartwarming that he was still doing quite good last year. 30% Rauno Aaltonen - Vague old-age ailments but no specific illness. 10% Ulla Järvilehto - strong political opposer of gay rights in the early 1980s. Wheelchairbound and frail as of late. 20% Jasmiina Yildiz - advanced cancer, recurring pneumonia recently but quite young and doesn't look dying. Hmm...25% Heikki Hasu - Quiet for a couple of years and really feels like someone who'd just die suddenly sometime. 45%. Reijo Oras - Pulmonary fibrosis, late 70s. 30% Leo Makkonen - Very fat but only 76. Looks swollen but orthodox leaders... 5% Jutta Zilliacus - Turning 100 in good health but VERY pro-euthanasia and has said she'll end herself if she starts declining. 30% Heikki Hietamies - Massive stroke survivor, dementia. 35% Vuokko Nurmesniemi - Old, relatively silent. 10% Tapani Mäkinen - Seems a complete Malik Shabazz repeat. Survived ECMO, four heart surgeries, sepsis and takes 20 pills a day. On VAD as Shabazz is. You don't live long on VAD. 30% Jacob Söderman - Has always looked old. There were better potential picks. 10% Katriina Huttunen - Terminal but slow leukemia and crohn's disease. Probably will turn out a shite pick. 5% Eino Makunen - Unusually silent for a while now. 35%. Erik Bruun - Was in good health at 98. 20% Hector - Heart attacks and other stuff. Seems fine now. 5% Juha Väätäinen - Long health history but stable recently. 15% Erkki Pystynen - 95 years old and sounds like he's in perennially poor health. 40% Enzo Pulkkinen - Every ailment for years and seemed like an attention seeker at one point. Main problems COPD + lung cancer that that seemed to come back around late 2023. Seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth early last year - there's implications that he's close to the end, it's time and he's fucking overdue. 75%. Those that I thought of and decided to not include: Arvi Hämäläinen - Oldest in the country but really not that notable. Hannes Tuovinen - Not famous, honestly. Roy Harkimo - Almost a guaranteed hit but NOT notable. Lasse Liemola - Oldest of those yesteryear teen idols but seems to be doing well. Antti Aarnio-Wihuri - Decrepit, but too early. Probably immortal.
