Not sure if there's a thread for him or gameshow hosts generally, but just been announced that Bob Holness has died at 83

I heard on a quizshow i think, that bob holness was the first ever person to portray james bond don't know if its true or not.

He was

Yet he was also a member of that exclusive band of actors who have played the part of James Bond 007.

He was given the role by South African Radio' s English language service in a 1956 adaptation of Ian Fleming's Moonraker.

I think considering they will probably be making james bond movies for a long time to come yet being the first ever bond is something to be proud of certainly more than blockbusters IMO. Or as ed milliband calls it blackbusters haha http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2083175/Bob-Holness-dies-Ed-Miliband-BLACKBUSTERS-Twitter-gaffe.html

Typical. I was toying with Holness or Brian Cant and went with Brian. Another year of disappointment beckons.

Was this Ed's attempt at counteracting Diane Abbott's racist comment regarding whites?

I had the mighty Brian on my subs list, but thought his father in law Tony Britton may be a more likely choice. So he's on one of my teams...

Here's hoping that Ed Milliband stays away from his keyboard when Brian Cant dies. :ghost3:

He was actually the second person to play Bond, there was an adaptation of Casino Royale broadcast on CBS in 1954 as part of the series Climax, starring Barry Nelson as 007

Alexis "Sigi" Weissenberg, one of the world's greatest classical pianists, has died aged 82:

http://www.artsjournal.com/slippeddisc/2012/01/sad-news-great-pianist-dies.html

This one's significant to me - when my Dad did his National Service in the Middle East in the late 1940s, he went to a live performance of Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto in an open air cinema in Haifa at which the then teenage Sigi Weissenberg was tickling the ivories. Dad often used to talk about it with great fondness, and it gave him a lifelong love of that particular piece of music, which is also one of my favourites and was one that Weissenberg became well known for playing.

It's just after 11.30 and you're listening to Classic FM...

Barry Nelson died in 2007, a DL search tells me that I reported his death. It's a times like this that I wonder if dementia might be setting in.

John Madin - the architect responsible for 60's Birmingham (Central Library, Pebble Mill) & Telford has died.

Charles Price II, one time DDP selection and former US Ambassador to Great Britain and, of course, as everyone recalls, Belgium, has died, aged 80. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/charles-price-reagans-ambassador-to-belgium-and-britain-dies-at-80-in-southern-california/2012/01/13/gIQAp4rywP_story.html

Pardon me if there is an Ambassador's thread somewhere on this fora and I've posted it in the wrong area.
