Octopus of Odstock 2,200 Posted March 23, 2014 After about a good 5 months of self-mass debating , I'm decided that this year's DDP will be my last after 11 years. I haven't had the time, since January to properly check up on my picks, or add new names, and I've noticed I haven't had the interest in doing so. When DDT posted that Adolfo Suarez was near his imminent death, in years gone by I probably would've done and some more likewise, but bar feeling sadness that a man who did a lot to lead Spain from a dictatoral mess to a thriving country has died, the normal feelings of "oh arse, someone I've picked 3 out of the last 4 years but didn't picked this bugger shit bugger face" weren't there. It's not just because I'm doing badly this year, I'd decided if I won last year, I'd stop then. That's partly why I also gave the Brian Hart gimmee away. Anyway, enough of this drivel. This isn't farewell to the DL - I still feel a call of duty to update the World Cup players list and my personal survivors list and there is the odd thread I think's worthwhile posting in, but I have cut back. Nothing wrong with DL, it's just with kids and an increased workload, it's time to move on in life. Below is an semi-alphabetical list of OoO's tips not discussed anywhere that I've seen - all the obvious names are removed, but feel free to use or ignore at your leisure - there's no point me keeping it secret any more I hope they bring luck to you Francesco Acerbi, 26, footballer, cancer Ralph Boettinger, 53, Businessman, cancer Lord Blyth, 74, politician, illhealth Unita Blackwell, 81, activist, dementia Asa Briggs, 93, historian, frail/ill health Barbara Cooke, 87, opera singer, frail Neil Cunningham, 52, racing driver, Motor neurone disease Sammy Cox, 89, footballer, frail/ill health Clive Clarke, 74, footballer, dementia/ill health Kenneth Cope, 83, actor, COPD Salvatore di Masi, 69, politician, cancer Nowr El Sharif, 68, actor, cancer?/ill health Hal Faulkner, 79, soldier, cancer Martin Foran, 70, criminal, cancer Anto Finnegan, 41, gaelic footballer, MND Andrew Florent, tennis player, terminal cancer Gyula Grocsics, 87, footballer, frail/illhealth Dale Griffin, 66, drummer, demenita Alan Henry, 67, motor racing journalist, Parkinson's Ron Henry, 80, footballer, dementia Carl Haas, 84, businessman/racing boss, dementia King Juan Carlos, King of Spain, frail (and I suspect iller than being let on) Agnes Keleti, 93, gymnast, old/frail Bill Longmore, 77, police commissioner, cancer Robert Lindsay, 87, Earl of Crawford, ill health Baroness Lockwood, 90, politican, ill health Jack Lopresti, 45, MP, cancer Sir Douglas Myers, 75, businessman, cancer Ernest Maxim, 91, choreographer, frail Jim McElreath, 86, racing driver, frail/ill health Jimmy McIlroy, 81, footballer, ill health Nicky McFadden, 52, politician, MND Hanif Mohammed, 80, cricketer, cancer Ib Melchior, 97, film director, frail Carlo Mastrangelo, 77, singer, cancer Olive Nicol, 91, politician, ill heath Tim Price, 57, local politican (Devizes), terminal cancer (No news report, but GRO confirms he died in 2016) Lord Gwilliam Prys-Davies, 92, politican, ill health Bernardo Provenzano, 81, mafia boss, mutliple ill-health incl Parkinson's Divya Palat, 31, actress, cancer/MS George Rhoden, 88, athlete, frail Jacques Rivette, 86, film director, dementia Gerald Sim, 89, actor, dementia Agne Simonsson, 77, footballer, dementia Leon Spinks, 71, boxer, ill health Michael Sata, 77, Ugandan President, ill health Naomi Thomas, 32, mother, terminal cancer Kris Taylor, 31, footballer, cancer Baron Thomas of Macclesfield, 77, politican, ill health Joe Thompson, 24, footballer, cancer Lord Vincent of Coleshill, 83, Military bigwig, 83, ill health Mal Whitfield, 90, athlete, heart disease/frail Ray Wilson, 80, footballer, Parkinson's Disease Maurice White, 74, singer, Parkinson's Disease (14 left) Cheers all, it's been a pleasure. Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted March 23, 2014 Sad when good posters leave. Will you think about coming back when the little shits have grown up and you're old enough to start considering your own obit chances?
themaninblack 2,112 Posted March 23, 2014 You could return in ten years and no doubt the DDP will still be around... Still sad to see a legend retire. That will mean only myself of the people to have run the DDP to still compete from next year.

Phantom 2,533 Posted March 23, 2014 Hope you get a decent break from DDP, it's always sad when main contributors to the forums leave. But I fully understand what with having two little uns and their expanding social life and increasing workload. Hope you can someday find the time to check in once in a while. Spade_Cooley 9,535 Posted March 23, 2014 Peace out, big man, an amazing DDP competitor and an even better DL poster. If you have things in your life that are more important than researching how ArtistTaxiDriver's bowel cancer is progressing, I'd take that as a positive not a negative. msc 18,476 Posted March 23, 2014 Your posts on this forum are often of the most insightful nature, and so less of them will be noticed, but real life must come first. And kids! (As a new parent, I know how time consuming - but worthwhile - they can be!) Best of luck with kids, workloads, etc etc. May the World Cup be a good one if you see it. Octopus of Odstock 2,200 Posted March 28, 2014 Thanks guys. Banshees, well, you know, that's the thing isn't it, I could! But no, I'm true to my word. Of course it only takes 5 minutes to think of 20 pretty old or ill people from the top of my head, but if you're going to do something well, do it properly. TMIB, that's true, if DDP is stil going in about 10 years, then yep, I'll probably chip in. But I need to let other people experience mid-table mediocrity now.... Estuarian Float 97 Posted March 31, 2014 Fun pooling with you, OoO. Thanks for sharing your notes. That was very nice. Its strange to think about the mortality of the DDP. I wonder how many people there are left who would be willing to take on that tremendous feat.
